I recently used the Remitly app to send a transfer of over USD $1,000 to Ghana, West Africa. What followed was a deeply frustrating experience. The funds were not received by the intended beneficiary by the stated delivery date (7 days. Remitly made no proactive attempt to notify me of any issue. Beginning on the eighth day, I initiated contact with their customer service team via chat and spoke with more than six different representatives. I tried making a transaction to Mexico and it was cancelled. They offered me a special rate for the first $1000 I sent. So I tried making the most of the offer and sent the full $1000. Instead my account was suspended for doing that. I tried contacting right away and was told to wait 48 hours to get my account back and wait another 24 hours before making a transaction again once I got back my account. Closed a account without give a reason
Remitly closed my account without providing any reasonable explanation as to why they did so. I had sent money from my account to my aunt so she could deposit it into my bank account, and Remitly simply shut down my account. When you call customer service, they offer no response regarding the reason behind it; even though I regularly send money and verify any information they request, they closed my account for what I consider to be absolutely no clear reason.

This review is not about the app itself. The problem is how this company fails to level users’ expectations. These transactions are not instant at all, and if there is a random request for something more in order to move forward with the transfer, you won’t be notified for quite a while (as in an hour or longer). I just created an account and completed a transaction to send funds overseas. The transaction got cancelled and when I asked customer service I was told my account got suspended. They won’t tell me why. They keep instructing me to create a new account and I will be able to complete the transaction. My account was suddenly deactivated without any explanation, and after contacting customer service, I was simply told it will not be reactivated. No clear reason, no resolution, nothing. It shows me the conversion rate so I know exactly how much I’m sending & how much that translates to with the ability to adjust what I’m sending or what they are receiving.
