Mostly Very Easy to Use!
I appreciate how easy it is to book flights with cash or miles, get updates, see all of my upcoming flight, flights, etc. I also LOVE the chat feature. I can do just about everything I would need to on a phone call, using just the chat feature in the app. As of the last several months, updates tend to be more accurate, though I wish being made aware of when boarding starts was more consistent. (I don’t think that’s the app though.) My only major complaint with the app is that often times, if I’m trying to change or modify a flight, it will force me to sign in, even though I’m already signed in

Terrible Customer Service
I was charged $50 for a carry-on bag on our returning flight. We were not charged for this bag on our initial flight, nor have we ever been charged for it in 3 other previous flights. The staff never weighed my bag or did any measurements, but said it was too big. The woman who disputed with my 7 months pregnant wife told her that she needed to run back to baggage check in which is unacceptable! The other staff insinuated that the flight team in Dallas “did us a favor”. We had 3 tickets and only 2 carry on bags. Persistent notifications you can’t clear in app
AA is not known for great tech, but the nonstop red dots notifying me ALL year have made me nuts. Nothing clears them. I can open the stupid eshopping offer that is almost always the reason it “notifies” me and the dumb red dot sits there like a teacher’s red pen. Further, the ludicrous notification banner “Reminder US Credit Card Holders…” telling us since FEBRUARY that our credit card Loyalty Points would post separately than our miles has been there even through multiple app updates. Missed flight due to unnecessary delays.
This will be the last time we use American Airlines. We haven’t had issues prior to this but this trip was met with delays going to our destination and delays on our return flight. Yes they let you know about the impending delay but don’t tell you the actual delay until you are supposed to start boarding. At which point it’s too late to do anything else. Don’t take red eye flight
I have flown red eye flights before and I was not sure why American does this? I wasn’t happy with American last night. I have never been on a red eye flight before where they want to feed you at 10:30 -11 p.m with a meal. All the flights I have been on . Please borrow features from other Carriers
Although the American App “crashes” less frequently than it did a year or 2 ago, Your competitors have some basic features in their Apps that American has not adopted. On United, it’s easy for me to add meals when in first class without leaving the app, and being sent to your website. Same goes for basic flight changes. It’s easier to find award flights on Delta. I fly with American Airlines at least every two weeks, and honestly, every time I step onto one of your planes, it feels like coming home. The service is consistently fantastic, the crews are warm and attentive, and the overall experience makes traveling feel easy — even on the busiest weeks. We had a lovely flight on the first trip AA4225 Oct 1. I was upgraded to first class, we bordered early and the attendant offered us drinks while the plane boarded. Then she came back when we were in air to offer our second drink and snack. On today’s flight AA3881 Oct 5, the gate crew called us as group 1 to board and followed immediately by all other numbers. I stood in the 1-4 line and was told to move to other lane as that was where all were boarding. When I got on there was no attendant to ask if we wanted early service. The digital accessibility is broken, broken, broken.
I fly on American, because I am a blind guy, and I travel with a guide dog, and although the airline gets a lot of things wrong, they actually understand and have a pretty good process for registering service animals. Unfortunately, their app is a straight up disaster from an accessibility standpoint. Does Not Work On Working Devices
Apple, in a desperate attempt to get people to buy new phones must have colluded with AA to ensure their app doesn’t work on older devices. I brought this to AA’a attention 3x in the past month with nothing but lip service in return. Bad service start to finish
I recently flown with American Airlines. I am very disappointed in the service that I received. First on the way going to my trip. I would like to personally think American Airlines and the gentleman named Ronald in the Charlotte airport at customer service. My child and I were on our way to vacation. The weather was terrible in Miami. We couldn’t fly in for six hours. The previous version was better
The previous version of the App pushed baggage info to you. Over half of my flight was standing around the baggage carousel waiting for bags only to learn our bags were in the office. I had to navigate through the manage trips to learn where my bags were. The App should tell me that. The AA app is worthless when you need real time updates on flights while you’re traveling. Poor Trip Logistics
I’ve flown with the major airlines many times, and don’t know what’s been going on with American Airlines recently. Booking a flight with them now means you will get extraordinarily short layovers. Then they end up delaying a flight and the itinerary gets messed up time and time again. First they had a delay for my trip back from Rome to LAX and they did not alert me at all no email or text, nothing! So I had to pay for another night in Rome (which they are not reimbursing me for) and reschedule to the following day. New Version of App Punishes Old Phone Owners
I can’t download my boarding pass because the American Airlines app doesn’t work unless you have iOS 17 or higher- my current iPhone can’t use anything higher than iOS 16, so I just can’t download my boarding pass or use the American Airlines app at all. Allow saving of trips, other travelers and other email addresses
On balance, it’s a good app. But it needs to allow you to save a booking that you haven’t completed. The app continually restarts forcing me to start a booking over from the beginning. It also should have an “other travelers” or “family” feature that lets you save the details for other travelers for who you book through the app, like your kids. Worst Flight Experience. My Departure flight ended up having a last minute 10 hour delay in LaGuardia and then my returning flight was completely cancelled during my lay over in DC. It was another 10 hour wait before I could find another flight home. Boston trip
I had great service going to Boston. Crew was very courteous. People at the American check in were awesome. My trip from Boston to Charlotte was fantastic!! I had to use a wheelchair coming home. Does not tell you what city your layover will be
One of the worst searching apps created. Set your destination and it'll give you flights with layovers, but it only gives you the airport. Initials, it doesn't tell you any more information about where you potentially would be stopping. I have to take the three letter initials and do a Google search to figure what city the layover will be in. 2) nNo Face ID 3) You cannot see your itinerary in the app. So if you have connecting flights and want to know when your final flight lands, you have to go back and look through your emails because it is not in the app! 4) Instead of making the app easy

Baggage Nightmare
Had an emergency and needed to fly out of LAX after inbound from Australia rather than onto the original destination of SFO. Was told it wouldn’t be an issue since I would need to grab my bags in LAX after customs. It has been slowly getting better but still lacking in so many areas. Every time I open the app, it wants to update my calendar, which would be nice if there’s new flights or updated times, but almost everything gets refreshed with a new notification badge on my calendar even when nothing changes. Moderately functional but very buggy
Every time they update this for “performance and bug fixes”, they merely replace the old bugs with new ones. It’s not a very useful app for doing anything realtime. Flight booking and changes still open an in-app browser that seems to have the hardest time keeping track of login session tokens every time it loads a new page (why isn’t it just using the token from the app???). “Chat” support in the app is terrible, it’s just a bot. Damaged & Delayed Bags
On several occasions including this travel trip I’ve arrived with a new suitcase and left the airport after my AA flight with a damaged, broken, chipped, scratched up suitcase. There appears to be zero care. I even have a video of an AA employee dropping my bag from at least 6 feet in the air straight onto the ground, breaking a portion my bag in the process. I sadly had this view of the incident from my seat on the flight. Poor usability
I’m going to try and keep this app review unbiased, because of my last 20 (yes, twenty) flights with American Airlines, not a single one has been on time, and multiple have been flat out canceled. But for this new adventure with AA, it was a technological glitch that led to disaster.
