Use if you’re never tight on funds
The 3.7% APR is how they get you in the door. After that you have very little mobility, there’s no way to directly deposit cash or any actual ATMs. Then comes the counterintuitive part, you deposit from another bank which then takes 2 to 5 business days. And if this happens to be on a Wednesday you could be waiting until Wednesday the following week to access your deposit. If you need access to your cash for day to day transactions, then this is not for you. Definitely not recommended, I’ll take a 2% APR with actual banking facilities and promptness.

Withdrawing is a nightmare
APY is great, deposits run smoothly. However, withdrawals and linking of accounts is a nightmare. The linkage gives many issues with Plaid. When you are finally able to manually link an external account, Marcus will not let you transfer to it. They will only let you transfer to the funding account. We closed our CD through one of your customer service reps. The FRAUD dept denied our transfer to a LINKED account. We had to call and were told the reason for the denial was the fact we had to change our phone number—which was done at the insistence of that 1st customer rep. This app screwed me so well. I was trying to transfer a specific large amount of money from my bank account to my Marcus account. Each time I attempted, the app gave me an error message essentially stating that my attempt to transfer my money failed and to try again later. Unable to Login
I have had Marcus for two years now and I love the account. Unfortunately the app has stopped working for me and always gives me the message “We have temporarily locked you out of your account. Please call us to have it unlocked.”
Every time I call I’m told my account is not locked, which is true because I can log in on the website. Support has basically told me that there is no other fix to this as I have already tried deleting/redownloading, changing my password, looking for updates. Lack of Transparency, Poor Support — Feels Like a Bonus Trap
My experience with Marcus by Goldman Sachs has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.
I opened the account specifically for a promotional cash bonus and deposited a large amount of money within the required timeframe. I followed every visible step and kept the funds in the account as expected. Only after the fact was I told I would not receive the bonus because I was “not enrolled.”

This is such a great company for savings accounts and CDs! Their rates are the best and their savings account offers a high interest rate. I’ve been a customer for over a year now. And while I like the app, I’m giving it a low rating because I’m quite unhappy with the company.
A few weeks ago I attempted to help my mother (who does not speak English fluently) open an account. It won’t let you transfer large amounts of money. My wife and I bought a car and we agreed to split the costs down the middle. Because of Marcus, I can only transfer a few thousand dollars and buy a few. I mean very little to my wife. Great interest rates but needs better recurring scheduling
I love this app. The interface is incredibly easy to use and Marcus offers awesome HYS account and CD rates. They were the most competitive on the market. However, they have too rigid a format to schedule transfers to the High Yield Savings accounts. I want to schedule my transfers to occur on the 15th and the “last day of the month” instead of a fixed date like the 30th. It makes it way more tedious to schedule my transfers which turns me off significantly. Constant Technical Issues
I was happy with Marcus until recently! I set up a recurring transfer and it just randomly stops. I only discovered it when I checked my account to see my balance was the same. I called customer service and were stomped as to why it just stopped when I did not initiate it. I set it up again and randomly check my account and found it had stopped YET AGAIN! Just after 3 months of opening my account my entire fund was held for absolutely no reason for 2 months and I couldn’t pay my rent or make any purchase since all my money is in the bank. The functionality of the app will now logged on is as expected. My problem arises from the inconsistency in being able to access the app. One day facial recognition works and the next day it wants a password. This happens repeatedly. I rarely write a review but please avoid Marcus for your HYSA. I had been a “happy customer” for a year until the day I finally needed my funds and tried to wire them out. Marcus locked my entire account because they couldn’t do 3-way verification call. Customer service was completely useless and just kept repeating that my account is “under review” - they refused to provide any further details or ETA even though I needed my funds asap.
