The toddlerification of a banking app
I will have to leave the bank if the user interface does not improve. I’ve used Ally for years and the app used to be a pretty sober pretty serious app. The user interface has gradually become toddlerfied—it looks like a banking app for iPad kids. Bold, illegible at a glance text has replaced the elegant and simple text it used to have. When you scroll through transactions, good luck spotting the dark green shade of text in a sea of black text (gone are the red and green, easily distinguishable text). For online banking, it’s not very convenient
We opened this account for the high yield savings. Transferring money between institutions when you’re ready to spend your savings takes several days (that’s frustrating when you’re doing construction on your home). Ally gave my money to scammers
Ally alerted me about a transaction, and included a standard message if this wasn’t authorized by me to please call Ally immediately. I called Ally, and reported it as fraud. Got a provisional credit, but that decision was reversed about 3 months later. Needless to say a police report later and multiple other documents proving this wasn’t me, got me nowhere with Ally. I tried to Zelle some money from Ally to my other bank and they froze my account, when I called them the service provider on the phone, she said you can’t send money through Zelle mobile app unless it’s online, and when I ask why she says it’s because it’s for better convenience but isn’t that what the whole point of an mobile app is for? Bad for Auto Loans
This company & their total loss department are completely incompetent. My car was totaled in December of 2024, my insurance paid out the majority of funds owed at end of December. I had a 3rd party GAP coverage. In January of 2025, I contacted them several times for updates on the GAP claim, they told me they were missing a document from the car dealership. They outsource to India
Do you know how it feels to call customer service for a month straight trying to get a hold of someone who can help you??? And all they do is pass you back and forth? They outsourced to India. All of them read off a script. I called so many times that I was able to mouth along with what they were going to say.

Bad Experience
Unfortunately, I have had an absolutely horrible experience with Ally Financial. I used this company to finance my car loan and never missed a payment. However, when I started the process of getting divorced, my attorney subpoenaed billing statements from Ally Financial as part of the discovery process. At this point, Ally Financial stopped sending my monthly bills, as part of some sort of "internal policy" that was never adequately explained to me. Getting buggier and buggier
For the first two or three years I used this app I had almost no issues, but over the last six months the app has been giving me a ton of problems. It is slower but more importantly the functionality is frequently broken. For several months, the account balance would not update after I made transfers unless the money was unbucketed. However, if I went to make another transfer the correct balance would be shown under the “to” and “from” pick lists so I knew the transfers were going through right away. I have had multiple issues with this app over the past few weeks. I had card controls on my debit card from a few years back and forgot it was locked and tried to withdraw money - this got blocked as expected but wasn’t an issue since I remembered I could unlock it through the app. And even got a notification about it saying I need to unlock it.

Hate the update
New Update (March 2024): I hate the new UI. For this to be an online only bank, your app should be the best in the business. The app is not that and far less. At minimum, ADD DARK MODE to this blinding UI that you gave us. Did you even consider looking at your competitors? I don’t stay with Ally because I like them. I stay because I don’t feel like finding a new bank but it is on my todo list. All because I hate the app and it’s the only way to bank with them.

Inconsistent
I just signed up but am super skeptical. Firstly, my first attempt to sign up was rejected, and it was very apparent there was an issue on the backened because the rejection was immediate and never seemed to attempt processing the application for a new account. I shrugged it off and the next attempt was successful. With that out of the way, I downloaded the app, and man am I disappointed. I’m not sure what’s happened to Ally in the last year, but everything about my experience has been horrible. When I first moved my business to Ally three years ago (I was a longtime BofA customer) I was so impressed - their customer service was top-notch. To say that it has declined is laughable - it has absolutely plummeted. For starters as a new member you’re getting screwed. the amount you can withdrawal from an atm is fairly low before they decline you from doing it. They have an extremely confusing transaction system where you will be notified twice once at the time of the transaction and then another random point throughout the next couple of days leaving you confused if you were just charged or they just drafted the the charge. Had a terrible experience using this app. Don’t bother using the transfer feature because you’ll lose money and have an even harder time trying to get it back. There was a glitch using this feature and nothing was updated on my end until I reset the app, only to find out that the transfers were received but weren’t successful. I made a decision to try Ally for both a high yield savings and rollover IRA from another online broker I’ve not been pleased with. I initiated the rollover 2 months ago and it was supposed to be a simple ACAT (automatic) transfer. These are supposed to only take a couple weeks. Worst Banking Experience
I wish I could give ally zero stars. I have had issues with them since March 2019. I was moving around a lot, informed them of this yet my card was repeatedly shut off for “suspicious activity” without them notifying me and continued after half a dozen phone calls informing them of my location and the fact that I would be moving around for awhile.

Missing a few nice features compared to Cap One
As a current BOA costumer looking to make a move; considering both Cap One 360 and Ally. So far I’ve moved most banking to Ally for their interest rates, 24/7 phone support, and use of their cash back visa. The Ally snapshot view in the app compared to Cap One is nice as it shows total balance of all accounts. However, it currently does not show our Cash Back visa balance in snapshot view or ability to mange the cash back visa via mobile app. Talked to customer service several times and apparently they’re working on it.
