Bose abandons customers
I am extremely disappointed with Bose and the decision to effectively abandon SoundTouch customers. I invested heavily in the Bose ecosystem over the years because I trusted the brand, recommended it to friends and family, and believed Bose cared about long-term customer experience. I am an old lady. Today I was sent an email stating that an update needs to be made TODAY, or my device won’t do this or that. TODAY they tell me about this particular update that needs IMMEDIATE attention, TODAY. I don’t understand technology. I attempted MULTIPLE times to follow their directions. NOPE. Warning: The SoundTouch App Damaged My Soundbar
The SoundTouch app is bad, please don't use it because using it will damage your soundbar. I have a Bose SoundTouch 300, and when I connected it to the internet through the app, the soundbar started malfunctioning. The sound either didn't play at all or the volume was too low. The first time, I thought it was a problem with the soundbar and I had to pay $250 to get it fixed. The second time I connected it, I realized it was the app that was damaging the soundbar, so I had to restore the factory settings several times to fix it. I own two SoundTouch 30 speakers, in different rooms, and use the SoundTouch app to network them in my home. The speakers are outstanding. I have absolutely no complaints about them. The app is a different story. I have a love/relationship with it: when it works well, it is great and allows me full wireless access and control over my speakers. Unfortunately, connectivity can be fickle. It is not unusual for everything to work perfectly fine for weeks at a time, and then suddenly, seemingly out of the blue, for it to drop the WiFi and/or Bluetooth connections on one or both speakers. Love/Hate relationship
I love this system when it’s working right. And when it’s not it’s an absolute nightmare. I’m pretty tech savvy and can accomplish most task fairly quickly without much trouble. The initial setup was a bit frustrating but got it done. After using the system for months and loving it it suddenly stopped working. Unable to find any speakers or groups. I worked on this for 4 days several hours a day before I finally got it working again. I won’t bore you with those details but it involved eventually deleting everything and starting over again. Agh!

OMG, at least the developers are consistent….every time I am required to update this app I have to re add my sound touch speakers. I understood when this was a first year app, but we should have solved this by now. My expectations is that during the app update all my settings are maintained, and that upon update there is no difference in the performance….too much to ask??

I actually worked for Bose for 18 years, and I can promise you, with absolute certainty, that the “software development team” there is a group of incompetent buffoons. I’ve had a whole bunch of these garbage SoundTouch devices for years now and not for 1 single day have they failed to disappoint. Speakers are nice with decent sound. App is horrible, you cannot ever get a consistent volume. If you have these speakers, don’t count on being able to use them all in conjunction. If you just have one, use Bluetooth as it’s the only way it will work. I’ve updated the speakers every time there is an option and nothing is ever fixed. Absolute garbage from bose, it’s cemented my decision to move away from the brand from here out if they can’t even get the most basic functions down over the multiple years I’ve had these. I gave it time (years) in hopes of having something usable but I’m done.

The only positive for me is the excellent sound from my Bose 20. I’d give the app and software a zero. I have an iMac and iPhone and have suffered with this miserable App and software going on 10 years for my Bose 10 and 20 speakers. I’ve never had issues with any other apps or software. I spent a lot of money on SoundTouch speakers. They don’t make them anymore now. I really don’t think that after 12+ years of being a Bose customer that I would buy another speaker from them again. If my favorite Bose Sound Touch 10 speaker ever gets unplugged, it takes 30 minutes to almost an hour to repeatedly search for speaker, can’t find, press and hold 2 buttons, search, can’t find, over and over. After 20 minutes, the same thing for setting it to my home Wifi- with all being handled right next to router and speaker. Insane. I thought the lengthy updating of the app would improve the laborious process but no such luck. This has happened the same way for a couple of years. BTW I have excellent Wifi so it’s not about that. Much improved
I’ve been using this SoundTouch app with a SoundTouch 10 speaker for ~3 years. In the beginning, I wanted to put the app and speaker in my car and roll it off a cliff… but I really need my phone so I didn’t. The speaker would not stay connected to my network rendering the app useless. I’m sure anyone else with the SoundTouch 10 could relate. But with continued support in software and firmware updates, these products are now a pleasure to use. I had faith in them brand… it didn’t let me down.

Problem solved? My router puts out two networks, a regular one and a -5G. My phone will connect to one of the two when I arrive back home, but apparently the SoundTouch 20 is only connected to the regular one. The app will work for a up to ten seconds on the -5G network then it says “no WiFi connection”. I can force quit the app and relaunch. It’ll work again for a few seconds and error again, occasionally it will automatically reconnect but again for just a few seconds. Made me think the app was buggy. It seems I have to manually ensure I’m on the regular network for it to work properly. Don

Many years use, same issues
First off, app works fine, and is fairly user friendly. Only real option that I am aware of to link your Bose systems to each other. What would give it 5-stars? The ability to link audio from the home theater/TV system to non-visual speakers. I would love to be able to watch the game, walk into the kitchen, and still be able to hear what’s happening! Likewise I hooked my record player to the AUX connection, wish I could link this to my other speakers as well. Is there a better way I should be doing this?

Worst Clunky App ever
The hardware is great and sound quality excellent. The original software that operated the system worked well however after one “upgrade “ it basically quit working. I literally delete and reinstall the app several times a month and have to restart my WiFi modem several times a week. Ridiculous! Very slowly getting better
I have had Bose Soundtouch SA-5 amplifier and Bose speakers for few years now. In the beginning, connection over wi-fi was very flaky. Over the years, after many updates and especially after AirPlay 2 update last year, connection has become a breeze. Now they have added feature “Stream custom radio url” which I really like. I do wish they can make this feature into “Radio Alarm with custom radio url”. And please make it possible so the speakers always turn on at a fixed preset low volume. Often times, the speakers come on at full blast volume and my family starts yelling at me full blast.

Getting better 😊
I’ve had bose SoundTouch speakers for about 3 years. Often, once or twice per week, the app couldn’t find my speakers, even after playing music on them for an hour. It would just quit, and then suddenly can’t find the speakers. I’ve contemplated selling them, just to rid myself of the frustration. But, I’m lazy, and never did. I’m noticing lately that the “lost speaker” phenomenon has pretty much stopped. So, I like them again, and probably won’t sell them (even though my laziness would prevent that anyway).

I had 2 SoundTouch 10 for a while now (about 3 years). Suddenly, one of them decided to disconnect from the network and until today I haven’t been able to reconnect it (this happened about 4 months ago). I’ve tried every way I found online to try to fix this and couldn’t make it work. I’ve read that the problem is with the iOS app, and when trying to connect the speaker the error message I get is “mobile device can’t find speaker on network”. I don't care for the UI of the app. It is buggy and laggy and the sound touch speakers (10 and 20) always seem to have connectivity issues and Bose seems to have some privacy issues, requiring that you enable Location Services in order to use the (very expensive) speakers. This would have been a non-starter for me if they had disclosed this at purchase, which they should be required to do for any contingencies of use. WTH do they need to know my location for, just another company overstepping it’s bounds. Sound quality of speakers is okay.

Updates needed
I couldn’t connect my Iphone 12 PRO-MAX after attempting to connect multiple times. It is very frustrating. As expensive as their products are, you would expect an app that would have an up to date firmware AND seamlessly connect to devices. The issues I was having was connecting with the “wifi” feature of the Soundtouch 30 via the app. When you completed the set-up and completed renaming it, it just goes back to square one and say “connection is not recognized” and would ask you to either retry or start over. When it Matters
Sound Touch, in my opinion has always been a bitter sweet experience; which is the way I like most things... When it works, it’s an enjoyable experience... then the occasional anomaly; you have to put on your troubleshooting hat; sometimes it takes an hour, sometimes not. Constantly looses connection
Too often when updates are needed the speakers keep pausing as if there is a problem with the Bluetooth connection or WiFi to my phone (both of which are NOT the problems). Then when updating it software cannot “find” speakers and I have to manually reconnect them and they cannot even connect to WiFi during that process. It is all on the speakers as everything else in the house works great. If they would consistently work and not need constant updates they are great. But I have no faith when I want to listen to music they will work all the time.

This giant expense is a poor performer. I have spent hours trying to get a device to connect multiple times during the 3 years we have used this app and system. Finicky would be a generous description. Between the music getting dropped and speakers getting dropped, I am kept busy troubleshooting. Plan on an hour or two to reconnect a speaker. Believe me, I could write the book on the steps to connect and I usually have to try a dozen or more times before the equipment will work.
