I’ve used TextMe with a paid Premium subscription to maintain a U.S. number while living abroad in the UK so I can stay in contact with family and friends back home. Recently, outbound calling stopped working completely. Text messaging still works, but no calls connect to any numbers. Support repeatedly told me their system shows I am located in India, which is incorrect. I live in the United Kingdom and have UK residency. When I works, it is good.
This app has a solid interface and easy functionality that I appreciate. However it has become increasingly difficult to get the app to work properly This is especially true for the sms (text messages). Dealing with support is a very slow, painful process as they do not know much about the application or offer solutions. It has been 3 months since the text function has worked. Starting with the “Enable notifications to never miss an important call or message” at the top of the screen that will NOT disappear until you activate notifications. It presents it as an option but no, it’s mandatory. It blocks buttons and makes the app vote smooth. This is even with the premium subscription. 2nd. Why is it that I have paid and subscribed to MULTIPLE numbers because of this happening and still get restrictions ?! I am not spamming as I’m clearly NOT a bot ! Absolute TRASH -TextNow is 1000 times better!
This app “would” decent – IF the developers could pull their heads out of the sand. For one, reception is choppy and garbled. There are times when the calls get put on hold, and you have to disconnect and call back. Worst of all, however, is the fact that the calls CONSTANTLY turn off the speaker – multiple times during each and every call. Absolutely ZERO excuse for this. Please fix your TRASH app, because as it stands, it’s more of a pain in the neck to deal with than it’s even worth – even if it is “free”. I’ve been using this service for several months and on too many occasions I found my phone and text blocked because they said I was making bad calls. I used this phone exclusively for my doctors, family, kids school and friends. It being blocked honestly was very difficult to deal with and decided to just buy into a phone plan and pay more. Why? I would like to say, that I’m not resubscribing to this app because I PAID to use this app for my business and half the time I could not text because of that stupid spam blocker and campaign blocker. If you frequently use this app for a business or for personal reasons, if you frequently text from this app to customers like I do, then they block you from texting people due to them thinking you are a spammer/campaign text. Being charged for number can’t use I see why apple doesnt give refunds
I’ve had issue with this app. I don’t understand why I’m being continually being charged for a number that I can not use. Either the number will disappear and I would have to find another one. Or when I choose how long to use the number it will go through but go back to the same page where I have to chose again and than I pick again and get charged again. I’ve been denied a refund through apple because of this. And as someone who used this app for sometime I shouldn’t have to be made to pay for a number or numbers I was not able to use.

Upon launch it sits there on the loading circle screen forever. I let it go 15 minutes. Tried again. Useless app. Can’t even get the current version either. I’ve been using this app for years and as of recently features and other things have just stopped working and at sometimes I never get the text that was supposed to get even though I’m paying for the number and have had paid for the number for years now, so as a longtime user, I wish the app was a little more stable. Literally the worst app ever. No customer service or communication. My number was expired after sending the very first text message with it. Then after that message, It blocked every message I sent after that for no reason at all citing something about their new protocols for spam or some nonsense which I most definitely was not doing. I’ve had the app for almost a month. I paid three monthly subscription and everything has been great so far but then 2 days ago all of a sudden I can’t get calls. My phone will ring a half ring and go to voicemail id have to be right at the phone and answer quicker than it hangs up. My husband is incarcerated so I can’t just call him back. Thinking about deleting
I use this number for my business number and I’ve liked the app (besides the ads)😮‍💨 up until the last few weeks it’s been telling me I have messages that aren’t there and it won’t go away no matter how many times I refresh or uninstall the app. It’s just very annoying when I’m thinking I need to respond back to a work text and there’s nothing there or if I have a text it will show I don’t have any messages unless I actively go to the app. Also it just randomly stop letting me send videos which has messed I need to be able to send video confirmation to my clients

CANCELLATION PROCESS IS A RIP OFF
I downloaded this app realized it did not have the capability to text short phone numbers. I immediately canceled my profile with the company and removed the app from my phone…. they charged me twice. The way Apple billing works. Is they put all of your app charges in one big Charge at the end of the month. So I found out two weeks later that they charged me 7.99 twice. I immediately put in a refund dispute. It was denied. Predatory SMS pricing!
Been a long term user (6+ years) of TextMe, all the way back when they were called “Freetone” (look it up if you don’t believe me). In mid-2025–I noticed end of June but the change could have been made earlier—they changed their pricing structure to charge 5 credits per SMS message—for something that used to be free to lure in users. Calls, for reference, are 1 credit per minute to any number within the US, so each SMS you send costs you the same as 5 minutes of voice calls! Unlimited is limited
I paid for unlimited calls and text, however, it seems you are limited to about 10 calls in some time period; then you are blocked from making calls for 24 hours. So it’s not unlimited. Otherwise the call quality seems good. I will however be deleting and canceling because I use this for aspects of work and privacy so as their support says “unlimited calls and text to the US and Canada (limitations may apply)”, does not work for me. I’m not kidding. That is really how they describe their Premium/Unlimited paid service.

I thought this app was good, but my friends and I were talking abt having a surprise party for one of our other friends and we were texting a lot. All of the sudden it won’t let me text and says I’ve been detected as a spammer!!???? This needs to get fixed. I recommend this app to anyone who doesn’t have any friends or never texts, bc this has happened a lot!!! If u are getting this app for ur job, DONT! Bc it’s VERY glitchy and always kicks u off. (Usually it kicks u off for a couple days) If they fixed this I would 100% recommend

Scammers! Please read
Ok I used this app years ago and it worked fine. When I tried recently, it asks you to select a number and then pick a plan. When you pick it and input your apple password it pulls money and doesn’t secure your number! I needed that number urgently so I swear I selected another premium plan and it took the money and didn’t give me the number. Please save your money. There’s so many other text apps out there. I prob won’t get my $12 back but atleast save yours. I’ve warned you guys

Ads disable function
I am constantly fighting with the app to even use it. I have this app on my iPad and the current problem I’m facing is I can’t even tap the field to type out a message. The app force closes the text field to pull up the ad they put in the typing area. I tap the field to type it will lower the ad, pop up the field, then force close the text field to pull up the same ad. Then if I hit the x button in the ad it pops up a service to disable ads for $8 a week,,,I am considering getting rid of this app due to me spending weeks unable to use it. Last TextMe Updates killed phone calls
I have had this app for years and it was beyond great. The last few months of updates have severely impacted the apps call functionality. I have experienced the same thing as user gverbn. After the call connects, at any point within the 1st 3 minutes the call will show as connected but there will be no sound. These last updates seemed to have intentionally crippled the app’s usefulness as this was not a problem before last years update and has not been fixed in any of the most recent. Unreported Plan cancelling
Why does this app keep kicking me off while on a subscription and forcing me to buy a higher paid subscription. it should not show me paying for a subscription in my apple account, and have me cut off saying i am a free member in the app. if you raise pricing, it should be communicated like any other app through apple and should only raise at next payment after i ageee. Needs to have better group texting function
It works pretty good. I’m in Central America and selected a US number and have the $10/mo. subscription so I have unlimited calling or texting to any US number. I’ve had some trouble with the app freezing and have to log out and back in which is kinda annoying. The main thing I don’t like is it doesn’t work well for group messaging because it doesn’t allow more than four people on a group. That should be fixed. Otherwise it works well.

Force closing
The app keeps force closing. And when it doesn’t it cuts out during my calls. After a few seconds of starting a call it will go dead silent and cut off the other person. I called my mom and it cut out so I hung up. she said before I hung up the phone said “you have been out on hold “ i didn’t put her on hold and there is no hold button. It just cuts her out and me out and I can’t make calls anymore and I paid for a subscription I can’t even use correctly. I can’t get my phone interviews or phone appointments for mine or my doctor done. It’s been happening for a few weeks now.

Pay monthly for what?
So I decided to pay for the number per month but I still see all the ads, so what did I pay for? I need a little bit more explanation because it is not really clear. Wait the different between paying or not. If you have to pay extra $40 per month to have a northern ads free app what the advantage. Better to get another real iPhone. I was trying to look for customer service number or email and I wasn’t able to find. It’s odd that a phone app for phone numbers doesn’t have a number to call.
