Read the news (before everyone else does)
Having lived in NYC for several years (and having the Times delivered on my doormat for many of those years), it is fantastic to be able to keep up with the news through the Times app. I now live in the Netherlands again. One thing that I have noticed is that many news outlets (such as tax payer funded NOS) also read the NYTimes. It often happens that I read something in the Times, and read the same article on the NOS app. So, might as well read the news before anyone else does here.

NYT is following other media content providers by putting more and more ads in the app. When it started it was a small nuisance, but is has become endemic, literally unavoidable. I have gone back to the browser version, no dark mode and poor navigation but thankfully clean of ads on my phone.

The app menu is very limited in terms of giving access to various sections of the newspaper. Just replicate in the app the sections menu that you have in the web version of the NYT.

Nice app but you should really reconsider what is “breaking news”. I get notifications on my watch all the time . Like “king is sick”. But not dead? I like getting notifications but this constant peeping is annoying so I of course had to mute all notifications .

I paid for a subscription to the app but can't access it anymore because the update now requires iOS 16. That should be illegal (or a refund should be offered), but more than that, it shows a mentality of caring only for the affluent customers. Pushing consumerism, way to go NYT !?

92 year old actors dying is not breaking news
PLEASE stop sending push notifications of 80+ year old people I’ve never heard of dying as breaking news. I like the NYTimes and I want to continue to receive push notifications for actual news, but old people dying of old age is not breaking news. Please change your criteria for breaking news push notifications or allow users to select categories of what is breaking news.
