Description
Completely redesigned for 2014, iControlAV5 gives you complete control of your compatible Pioneer AV Receiver and Blu-ray Disc player using your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
(*A note regarding AV Receiver compatibility: iControlAV5 works with compatible AV receivers. A complete list of compatible models is available below. )
Not only can you control the basic features of your AV receiver like volume, switching inputs, select the listening mode and power on and off. iControlAV5 turns your iOS device into an advanced remote control, giving full control (i.e. SOUND EXPLORER) of your new AV receiver, and in a fun and intuitive way.
Designed for both iPhone and iPad, the iPad version has a unique user interface specifically designed to take advantage of the iPad device's larger screen.
*Set the network standby --> "ON" beforehand, you can turn ON your AV receiver with iControlAV5.

Just what I needed
This thing is absolutely what I needed. My AV receiver is a SC-1522 and it is tucked away behind my TV. The AV/remote uses IR, and with the TV in the way it is impossible to control the volume without standing in direct line of sight of the receiver. With this app, I can control the volume (and other features I haven’t yet explored) via WiFi instead of infrared.

Newer is not always better!
Since I recently purchased the sc-LX801 and I also have models:elite sc-95, sc-1223, vsx-824. They all work fine, but newer unit app has taken a step back from the sc-9x from last year. Ok, the list: no longer av scaler, just audio, the video is done all on auto. The eco modes are gone, no monitor status, mcacc color graphics no longer exist and vtuner was easier to use with better graphics and an expandable menu than tunein. There are a few more things I can't recall at this moment, but overall the app works! Supplemental: Please update for the older receivers that are still work must finish

It’s back to 5 stars
I had just given up and given this a 1 star rating. My most sincere apologies! My problem was that router switched my iPad to a different band than the Pioneer SC87 was on. I manually disabled the second band on my iPad and all is well again. Yes, it’s time for an update with most routers now automatically switching as they want to but I’m thrilled I got my audio going again. I had not used the system in a while and switched to the convenience of a stereo-pair of HomePods. They sound good, but WOW, they pale in comparison to the SC87 and a full atmos set of KEF’s.

Totally unreliable on my Pioneer VSX- 45.
The low quality speaks to the king of company 11 Trading Company is. There has been no update for over 5 years. The router sees the Pioneer receiver but the app can not connect to it. If I reset the receiver (absolutely essential every time but only lasts for a few hours) the app suddenly connects to the wifi and is very usefully. The next is a whole game and the app will not see the receiver or connect to the wifi despite being listed on the network as active. My receiver is wires directly to an access pt.

Worst of the worst app, the fact they updated it 5 years ago indicates the lack of commitment Pioneer has with their end user customers. Device quality could be great? but with out the capability to explore it, it becomes just a useless seated brick on my living room. Switching over to Bose, huge big difference in sound, app capabilities, etc etc… looking forward to put my Pioneer system in the dumpster unless of course someone else wants to have it their living room as I mentioned just a piece of black useless brick

When app can’t connect, unplug the AVR
This was driving me crazy but just figured out how to get it working again. I ran into this years ago but forgot.
If the app can’t find the receiver and you get that error after about a minute, unplug the AVR for at least 3 minutes, quit the app. Hi mug back in and launch the app. It then found it again.
I wish they would update this app because I’m sure some iOS will kill the app for good and at that point I’ll have to replace the receiver since we use it for multi zone and without a remote we’ll have to go across the house to where the AVR is located to turn it on, turn in zone 2, adjust

Why for some years now you guys won’t update the app? The devices the app is to used on have had their softwares updated severally making your app incompatible or showing error especially when connecting to an IP address provided by the receiver. Are u guys ok? Or u just don’t care anymore. U made the app for a full functionality of your receivers but now it not. Do something about the app.

I’ve been using this app for the last couple years and it’s has worked great for basic functions like volume control and switching inputs. If that’s all you need with access from your phone (especially when you can’t find the remote or it’s too far away)… then this app will be just right for you. I have a Pioneer Elite SC-LX501.

Previously, I used the original iControl app and loved it, but I had to switch to this one because they didn’t continue supporting that app and the newest iPhone update made it inoperable. First try, it opened and found my device. 2nd try, the app just sits and spins forever and never opens.

Great when it works
It controls Pioneer Elite SC97 and when it connects it’s great. However if the Receiver is turned off from the app and the app closed on the iPad, next time use it a few hours later, it does not establish a connection or find the Receiver. Nothing has changed in the setup or router. Who knows why. Annoying! Even after turning the receiver on with the actual remote, it does not see it.
