A staple for more than a dozen years, but I’m getting wary and looking around
I use this app probably more than any app I’ve ever purchased besides 2Do. It’s a page-one-on-my-homescreen staple. But I’m side-eyeing the direction it’s going in, starting with the needlessly clumsy interface overhaul that turned viewing On This Day (probably my favorite feature) from one tap to multiple taps that are so unintuitive that more than a year later I still stumble over the order. I’ve got the OTD widget, which ostensibly should cancel out that problem, but half the time I tap on it, it opens the app, jumps to OTD and then immediately jumps out of it, negating the whole purpose.

I’ve been using DayOne for 12 years. If you want to change your pricing structure, add new features, new subscription tiers, fine. Go ahead. But this latest change removes features, in an attempt to get me to pay them more money. Practical Journaling
Where do I start? Day one has literally changed my life since I first made an entry in the app. It’s become an important keepsake to me over the 2 years that I’ve used it for a myriad of reasons. The most important of those reasons being the layout of the app. I love the way the app lays out your previous entries from year to year so that you can visually see how often you’ve shown up to write an entry, but you can also include photo attachments to each entry to kind of have a scrapbook vibe. I was looking for a journal app that could give me the flexibility and access of electronic journaling and the comfort of knowing that I can back up, save, and print a separate file. I organize my thoughts and life in this app. I can’t recommend it more. You can create as many journals as you want, title them, tag them, add photos and videos. It’s been a way to use a gratitude journal, a thoughts/feeeling, Halle ing journal as well as notes for various family member’s, healthcare notes, work notes, on and on. I’ve been using Day One for nearly ten years now and I can’t imagine using any others. I pay for the subscription which allows me to use multiple journals which I find useful. There are just so many features and the design is very simple and straightforward. I love that I was able to sync my instagram account to it. a major reason of why i chose to have a digital journal compared to a physical one is because i’m too concerned about someone finding my journal and reading it. it would be great if they added a feature where a passcode/face id is required (preferably both) before opening/revealing the content of an entry that you’ve made. it would make it harder for someone to read every entry you’ve made. it will be a lot harder and slower for someone to read through your entries if every one of them requires verification first. but if someone is able to guess my passcode and also knows my phone passcode to

It’s simply “all that and a pack of gum.” It’s *everything* they promise. I used this for a few weeks in 2019. Dropped it and forgot about it. Redownloaded it last month. I’ve been using DayOne as my private journal for over 6 years. I started using it when I realized I was never doing the journaling I wanted to do because 1.) writing on paper meant leaving it around the house for prying eyes, and 2.) They have fallen behind some other journaling apps with more customizable template options such as formatting tables without using Markdown and show no sign of motivation to add these features. I’ve been discovering a lot about myself lately and this app makes it so easy to remember them. I really like this app! One of the best things about it is that even the free option has a lot of great features: you can add one picture for free, per journal entry and write pretty much as much as you want in an entry (if there’s a limit I haven’t discovered it yet and I write a lot!). I’m not one to do digital journaling as I don’t like the thought of everything being online, on an app, or on a tech. I swear, every time I update this app I regret it. Ever since Bloom Built switched this to a subscription app it felt like all their GUX people fled. Earlier iterations were barely useable with huge chunks of the screen overrun by menu’s and banners and nonsense. Then they seemed to Get The Hint and all the clutter went away and the app got streamlined again. Day One Journal became a pleasure to use again. Well, those days are over. I love the cross compatibility and how I’m able to journal seamlessly across all of my devices. I do have a few suggestions though. 1- on Mac, let us change the app color 2- when adding photos, let us pick which photo we want to take the metadata for location/time from for the entry 3- more journal colors please. I’ve emailed this issue before but I received zero response. When I go to search for a tag I am met with all my tags coming up as 0. I can still click them and their entries will show but I can’t see how many times i’ve used the tags. Suggestions: More customization. The app interface is nice. But could be so much more. Beautiful app and UI with end to end encryption (you are solely responsible for keeping your encryption keys, not Day One). I use this app daily for all my thoughts and writing; it’s a life saver app (so spill your thoughts and vent!) It’s nice that this app supports all types of media formats so it’s very flexible: audio recordings, videos, photos, scribble, etc and let’s you get your inner most thoughts out. I have had it 4 years. I now need support because the app won’t restart, won’t update. I spent 20 minutes chasing my own tail, trying to get support with no way to contact anyone other than go around in circles in circles off of their so-called help God. No way to email Support no chat. Very successful app and yet they put the money all in their pocket and won’t put out a little help to those that have supported it for now four straight years. Start a chat ability or release give an email right upfront. You have a choice spend 20 minutes of your life and chase your tail or go ahead and email.

I’ve been using Day One For a decade now and it’s one of my most used apps. I use both a paper journal and Day One to document everything in my life.
