Great resource, verify parental changes better though please
Someone put me with one of my sister-in-law‘s parents sometime ago and I just saw a couple weeks ago. It would be great if you can have some sort of verification to justify letting these changes be made in the future in order to not be put with the wrong family I would appreciate that. It’s very infuriating to not be with the family when trying to find the rest of my ancestors or be tied to my loved ones, both living and no longer here. I have worked with family search for many years. It is so frustrating to have application change after change. A lot of my family have done a TON of genealogy so far and I wanted to try to get into it too, so I started looking at Family Tree. Love it, just a couple of issues
I have really enjoyed using this family tree. I love adding personal comments, so people can be remembered as the beautiful human beings that they are. At the same time I’ve run into a couple of challenges. For adopted children, I want to honor both the family they were born into and the family that raised them - how can both lineages be recognized? And for same-sex couples, it’s hard to fully represent their family relationships in the tree. I hope there’s a way to make this tool reflect the love and connection in every kind of family.

There are obviously pluses and minuses to using Family Search. They have lots of great records, but then also erroneous records we can’t correct. My FIL died in 2017, but shows the obituary was published in 2022, which I assure you we did not publish that late. Maybe the newspaper made an error? His name is intermingled with the funeral homes name in the record though! Such careless mistakes and no edit function. Update: I just updated the app, but now I cannot find any record I’m searching. I cannot even find the record myself. I’ve been using this app for a while. I like it but it needs to improve certain features. It can be a little confused, you can add the info from the doc you found and add it to the tree, but you can not modify the basic info once you add the info from the doc. Sometimes you found multiple sources but most of them have different info (name) and cannot be modify. It helps you to draw closer to Christ because you can serve in just a click. It was a life changer for me going to the temple for the first time. Bad Programming
Records are programmed to be found via last names but on census and formal records, after surname changes, records for those people have to all be manually found. However if you include all surnames in the profile of the person, all their records will appear and that’s more than half the population of the entire world being missed. I love this app and it works very well on iPad and iPhone. However whenever I try to open it on my Apple Watches it crashes within a second every time. This is one of the only apps I’ve ever used that I can say has improved the quality of my life. Not only that, but it will improve the quality of every generation going forward. When I go to do family history activities it won’t work. I’ll click a million times and it won’t even change the screen to be blank. It’s as if I didn’t touch it at all. Appreciate the help
My wife and i were accomplishing quite a bit until she became ill in 2019. Her condition continued to decline until she passed in February 2025. I love FamilySearch, it’s provided me with so much information about my ancestors and has allowed me to upload my own memories. However, I hesitate to even open the app because after just a few minutes, it becomes unresponsive and shuts down. I found the platform exceptionally difficult to navigate, particularly when attempting to accurately represent queer relationships in my family. This is a good & free site to create a family tree, however we didn’t find it user friendly. It is hard to figure out how to pull in an already created tree from another source. From the moment I first load any person, the app permanently caches them in that state. No amount of refreshing, closing the app, or navigating to them in any other way causes them to update after that point. New sources I attach to a person don’t ever load into that tab, and vitals changes I make from those rarely appear. Relationship changes usually do come in, but the ordinance tab never updates — only the green/yellow circle icon ever shows updated information for those. I’ve used this app consistently for years and it is the best! One thing that is especially helpful is that family search goes out and tries to find historical records(birth records, death records, marriage records, military drafts, christenings, etc.) that probably match a person in your family tree. I absolutely feel my ancestors calling to me to do research and read up on their lives! I feel so grateful to have access to details of their courageous lives! I am a mother of Triplets and just discovered a great great great grandmother who also gave birth to triplets 150 years before me! I mostly use FamilySearch to write or record in my journal and to keep an individual journals for my kids and any other relative I have in my tree. I love that I can learn about my ancestors and find out simple family traditions go back 5 generations, or that I have the sam hobbies as a great grandmother. I spend a lot of time translating ( and editing) the French parish records from 1600’s and then carefully document the sources but can no longer reserve their names so my family can do temple ordinances for these “ cousins.”They are probably all related somehow, but because records are so old, difficult to decipher, and often sparse, connections for these “clusters”can’t be made yet to my direct line. Please don’t delay their opportunity
