What’s New Version 6.4.1

Bug fixes and improvements.

Description

Bark provides families with all the tools they need to raise kids in the digital age. Our comprehensive service lets you monitor content, manage screen time, and filter websites so you can get peace of mind while your child is online. CONTENT MONITORING Bark monitors your child’s texts, email, YouTube, and 30+ apps and social media platforms for issues like cyberbullying, adult content, sexual predators, profanity, suicidal ideation, threats of violence, and more. Parents receive alerts only when something potentially problematic occurs online. You won’t have full access to everything on your child’s phone — just the things you might need to know about. SCREEN TIME MANAGEMENT Families can set healthy time limits and create schedules for when their children’s devices can connect to the internet (through both cell service and Wi-Fi). WEB FILTERING Our web filter lets you select which websites your child can access on their devices. You can allow or block specific sites — or even whole categories like streaming services, online gaming, sexual content, and more. BARK TESTIMONIALS • "My wife and I LOVE Bark. We've had some tough but productive conversations with our 13-year-old son. It's proving to be extremely valuable." — Josh L. • “It’s just another set of protections we as parents give our kids for the digital environment (or as my 10-year-old calls it, a “cell phone seat belt”). My oldest is a 9th grader, and while I trust her, I’ve come to realize through the alerts that some of her friends aren’t truly her friends. It’s led to some amazing conversations about choosing friends wisely and recognizing toxic people. While she wasn’t for Bark at first, she’s since said she’s grateful that I saw those messages because it reaffirmed what she was feeling but didn’t know how to verbalize without sounding sensitive.” — Bark Parent • "Bark notified me that my young daughter had unknowingly revealed her phone number to strangers on Twitter. The fact that Bark notified me was impressive and led to an informative discussion with her the same day." — Jon B. • “Since Bark alerted us to the suicidal language used in the Google doc that was being used in a chat document with a friend, we have seen both a pediatrician and a licensed counselor. We are hopeful for a positive outcome. Thanks to Bark for letting us peek into our child’s mind!” — Bark Parent • “This app is a lifesaver! It has allowed us to catch so many “red flags” in the content my kids have accessed on their devices and in their interactions with friends and other people online that I wouldn’t have ever known about otherwise. The big difference between Bark and other “Parental Control” software is that Bark allows your kids to have so much more privacy. It doesn’t show you everything they do, but sends an instant alert regarding any activity that might be concerning. Highly recommended!” — Bark Parent With Bark, you can help keep your kids safe both online and in real life. Try it out for seven days absolutely free! Extortion!!!
Download this app for both my children’s phone ages 15 and 12. Got it all set up you will need a desktop for this. Kinda takes a lot of effort but it’s fine. App is supposed to track your children like find my phone but not, sometimes it didn’t show where they were. Now this is the problem I have and is why I gave this app 1 star. I didn’t like that I couldn’t see where they were sometimes. I canceled my subscription once you cancel make sure that you delete the app and all the data from all the phones you have the app attached to because if you don’t the app will make it so you CAN’T delete i

Location is Glitchy and Annoying
It’s good for monitoring text messages but it is AWFUL in terms of location especially recently. My child will be at home right next to me and I will receive honestly 30 alerts saying they have left and returned home. Constantly. Incessantly. And overnight and early in the morning I get another 50+ alerts of them leaving and coming home. Then when I open the app it will say last known location was an hour ago when I have 30 notifications in the past 15 minutes claiming that my child has come and gone from the house. It is completely useless for location tracking, which was the primary reason f

Perfect for kids!
I purchased the Bark watches for my 5 year old son and 8 year old daughter so I can give them a little bit of freedom while keeping them safe and easy to find. We live in a very family friendly subdivision and their friends are down the road. I can give them a little freedom to go there without me needing to tag along while knowing they got their safe. My neighborhood is very safe with lots of kids riding bikes all day in the summer. All of us watch each other’s kids as they go by to make sure everything is good. I love that the bark watch gives me complete control over settings and access. We

Don't Trust It's Coverage Claims
The app seems like a very basic and easy to use program, but beware the company's false claims of coverage and their inability to do anything if you get a watch from a third party, link it to your account, and discover their claims of coverage in your area is false advertising. They won't issue a refund for the watch, and they do not have the ability to remove it from your account, so you can't return it to the third party seller, resell it yourself, or even give it away for free. Before you activate a watch at your location, test it with a friend's child's watch to ensure it works. Phone serv

Doesn’t work
While after an hour of jumping through hoops I was able to install on my daughter’s iPad, the app would not detect my son’s. I used the chat bot and jumped through hoop and hoop but it wouldn’t work. Device showing in Finder- check. App running on Mac - check. iOS app and web browser to find it - fail. 2 hours of my life gone trying to set this up with like 8 more devices to go. It would take me 3 days to have it running even if it was working right. Have used the app and phone for two years and it’s been SO beneficial
Middle school parent here. Got Bark Phone 2.5 years ago; wouldn’t trade it for anything. Has been instrumental in (1) giving my kid gradual independence, (2) allowing him an avenue to socialize with peers, (3) giving me customizable options for phone and social media use, to best set him up for success, (4) building his skills to understand pros and cons of phone use, (5) encouraging healthy limits, (6) keeping a pulse on mental health, self-esteem, and social issues that my kid has encountered. Ruined my life
I’m a teenager whose phone is monitored by the app Bark, and honestly it has really hurt my relationship with my parents. I understand that parents want to keep their kids safe, but this app makes me feel like I’m constantly being watched and judged. It feels like I can’t say anything, search anything, or talk to my friends without worrying that it will get flagged and sent to my parents. Instead of helping us communicate better, it’s made things more tense. Sometimes normal conversations or jokes between friends get taken out of context, and then I end up getting questioned about things that

Reviewing app + phone
We have had a bark phone since last August. While the monitoring is decent, we’ve had a few issues and I’m pretty over it at this point. If my child gets too many messages at a time, the phone lags badly and even freezes at times. If my child tries to mark a chat as “unread” so they can go back to it later, it won’t do it. If I give permissions to delete messages so we can clear the phone, the messages won’t actually delete. After the bark app glitched a few months back, some chats are available for my child to open no matter what routine I have set up for that time. The phone has been stuck

Impossible to use
This is impossible to use if you’re over 40 and you have teenage daughters the program is a great idea. However, the interface makes it so incredibly difficult that every day there is a problem with it whether it filters out things that are necessary or it makes life incredibly difficult. this program as the primarily interface does not work unless you’re a high-level computer programmer. Current school normal operations use a Google logon for the schools required programs. The inability to separate school life from personal life is the main complaint that means that children are required to

Don’t waste your money on this app. The advertising makes it sound easy to use and flawless. We had about 3 months of a good experience and then the app stopped communicating. We tried everything that was suggested plus some. No success. I no longer received location updates or any other “warnings”. After multiple attempts, we gave up and requested a refund. They refused to issue a refund because the subscription was through Apple. Overall, good for a few months but if there’s ever a bug or somehow the phone and app stop communicating, then it’s game over. It also advertises that it’s easy to

Worst and Useless Parental App
I honestly don’t know how this app has positive reviews. Bark promises to help parents monitor and protect their kids online, but in reality it feels half-baked. The setup process is a nightmare—confusing, glitchy, and constantly requiring me to “re-authenticate” accounts. Even after all that, it missed obvious things in my child’s texts and flagged random harmless content instead. Notifications are either nonexistent or so overwhelming that they’re useless. The dashboard looks like it was designed 10 years ago, and trying to navigate through it is exhausting. Customer support? Basically copy

Teens perspective
My mom downloaded this app for me when I was around ten years old and she used it to control me and my texts with friends. If I said the smallest thing it would cancel most of what I could do on my phone. This app is super invasive of privacy, I believe getting your kid to trust you to tell you things is better than this app at a max. This app is for scared parents wanting to know EVERYTHING about their kid. It shut off my internet to where I couldn’t search up anything, even for school projects. We love Bark
After my son figuring out his way around parental controls on his phone we found Bark. What a game changer! We have the actual Bark phone and service. I love that the phone itself looks like any other smart phone and if/when we decide to add internet to his plan we don't have to upgrade the phone, just the service. I recommend a Bark phone to all of my family members and all of my children's friends who have phones parents. By far the easiest way to have parental controls they can't get around and monitoring without having to go through their actual phone and feel like you're invading privacy.

Just frustrated
I recently signed up for bark monitoring on my son’s first phone (iPhone). It doesn’t work on popular apps like snap and TikTok (which I didn’t realize at sign up). I figured for text monitoring at least it will be good— but it barely works and I keep having to run through hours of attempts to connect his phone to my computer and then my computer has to stay on all the time and he has to “allow” the connection at random prompts with his phone passcode. I know a lot of this hassle is Apple’s fault, but this app is expensive and is basically rendered useless due to connectivity challenges. Up

A poor excuse for helicopter parenting
This app is horrible. I downloaded it for my 10 year old daughter and immediately cancelled my subscription. The fact that any parent feels the need to monitor their child this much is beyond me. I’ve seen plenty of other parent reviews saying they were so thankful for this app because it allowed them to see all the things their kids were texting. If you can’t trust your own child, then you have failed as a parent and your kid shouldn’t have a phone/device in the first place. That’s your fault, and the child shouldn’t have to suffer. No matter now much you trust your teen...you need this
We installed this a few months ago to make sure our teen was not texting anything concerning. Due to the iOS update (this is mentioned in the info) it requires the passcode each time on the child's phone. I thought that meant she would have to enter her passcode like to open the phone, but it actually has a prompt "trust this computer " which requires the passcode to say yes or no. First of all do not get this if you have kids on iPhones who do not live in your home full time and you need to monitor from a distance. Their phones need to be able to connect to your home computer to pull data, and that’s not just a one time thing. I didn’t realize this and while Bark blames Apple for this, they aren’t super explicit about what’s needed for an Apple phone to be monitored *continually*. The setup is so involved. I got the trial and felt exhausted immediately after opening the app. I should have cancelled, but forgot to and now I am subscribed. I’ll update this review if/after I get through the setup. Update: After getting through the setup, I’m just as disappointed in the Bark app. Its functionality is extremely limited for iOS devices. Your child’s device must be connected to the WiFi network your home computer uses in order for the app to monitor iOS text messages. You have to download the Bark app on your home computer before you can complete setup. It takes 45-ish minute

Love the ease and peace of mind
I really love the ability to monitor my child’s access to the internet and many apps. I also like that I can turn off the phone and block or accept apps and contacts. I also talk to my child so that they know I do this to keep them safe. I also have an agreement that as long as I pay for the phone I will monitor what they do in the phone. I’m lucky that I have a relationship with her now. I hope this trust grows and when she is mature enough to deal with the messier parts of apps and the internet I can let her safely monitor her own choices.
