Meitu was my favorite photo editing app for many, many years. Recently the full screen ads that have no “x” even after the ad time has elapsed have made the app unusable— you literally have to close and reopen the app, so you lose your progress and your image isn’t saved. I get that they need to make money, but I wish they would make it so that their ads do not force users to close out of the app.

I’ve sold on Depop for years; I only do so because it gets higher user traffic among the gen z demographic than any other flea market app, although Instagram stores is probably catching up. Today was the third time their evil little UX dark patterns have stolen money from me. Depop deliberately makes it hard to calculate your earnings, and hide fees at any opportunity. Clue is one of the more well designed cycle tracking apps I’ve encountered, and I’ve been using it for years. The user interface is very elegant and intuitive. I recently switched to the paid option after they ramped up the pls-subscribe-to-premium pop up menus. Now that I’m paying for it, I’m a bit more bothered by the app’s shortcomings. I got sick of getting robocalls constantly, so I purchased a burner subscription in the hopes of using it in lieu of my personal number on websites etc to keep my personal phone more private. I use the burner number for basically anything that wasn’t super important/personal— every time I’m prompted for a phone number on a website I purchase something from, every time I need to give an app my phone number to “verify” an account, etc, I use the burner number. HelloTalk is an awesome language exchange app— the voice messaging, transliteration & translation features are awesome. I’ve been able to make friends and really improve my speaking and listening skills by using this app. However, I’d really like to see an option to filter who can message you by native language, or even just an option to only allow messages from people you follow. So for example, I am on the app to learn Japanese, so I only want to speak to Japanese speakers. But basically once a day I get a message from random non-Japanese speaking men being like “hello beautiful.. can we c
