Description

MilGPS is a field navigation tool designed for efficient use by trained navigators using MGRS coordinates. No in-app purchases or subscriptions. OVERVIEW - Display your current location and other info in large, clear text on customizable screens. - Create waypoints using your current location, map crosshairs, distance/direction projection or optimized coordinate entry. Organize waypoints into overlays and navigate to them by following an arrow or on the map. - Visualize your location and waypoints on a map with smooth scrolling grid lines/labels. Apple and Google online maps are included or supply your own offline maps in raster MBTiles format. OTHER FEATURES - Supports MGRS, USNG, UTM, Lat/Lon and OSNG location formats. - Supports a wide variety of map datums including WGS84, NAD27, OSGB36, AGD66 and ED50. - Use 3 different datums/location formats for location display and waypoint entry. - Supports a wide variety of angle, altitude, and distance formats. - Cell phone signal not required for basic navigation functionality. Online maps require a data connection. - Supports military date time groups for local/zulu time - Import and export waypoints via the standard GPX file format. Limited support for KML and CSV formats. Routes and tracks not supported. - Map ruler tool to measure distance/direction between two points on the map, snaps to waypoints NOT INCLUDED (YET) - Route planning - Track recording - Online mapping sources other than Apple and Google maps - Vector offline maps QUESTIONS support@milgps.com NOTES - WiFi-only iPads are not supported because they don't have a GPS receiver. - Mapping function requires a data connection. - Using GPS will shorten battery life. - Online maps are provided, hosted and updated by third parties. This app is pretty robust. 12 bucks and you get pretty decent MGRS or grid locations. Please note, your phone isn't the best compass, or tool for pinpoint accuracy. Knowing this should help set the expectation that it could be off by a minimum of 5 meters. However, using this to plot veteran gravesites for flag detail, seems to be spot on. Thank you, MilGPS!

My favorite Navigation App
I’ve utilized MilGPS all the time. I’ve had this app for years and it is definitely my favorite to use. Route planning, noting landmark co-ordinates, distances, verifying pre-planned azimuths, points of interest, towers/buildings for resections, repeater stations, etc. Additionally I use MilGPS at certain instances during a hike/navigation exercise, in order to verify my bearings, distances, timing, datums/declination/and grid reference systems match. Handy, not perfect (yet)
Nice tool for plotting and adjusting point. It’s super useful to separate and group points in overlays and makes switching between overlays easy. The ability to export and send whole overlays is also great. Couple things I would like to see, 1. Develop a feature where the user can measure direction and distance between two plotted points without having to manually measure with the center cursor. 2. If there was a way to share/collab on overlays with live updates between 2-4 end user devices you would have a tool that could change the way people navigate and communicate.

This is perfect if you’re looking for a quick-reference way to navigate. It has several different map types to swap between (satellite, terrain, etc) and you can set your own waypoints, as well as using 10-digit grid cords. For those curious, it works off satellite connection, not data. Cell service isn’t required for this to work. It’s basically ATACS without being able to see other people’s devices on the map
