Needs Work

As a news aggregator, this app is completely fine. Has decent controls for fine tuning your feed like muting certain sources and dialing back certain interests. Where this app fails is the social media aspect of the platform. It’s buggy as hell. It’s constantly dropping favorites, histories, and notifications. But even when it properly records your activity and is pushing notifications on your interactions, you could come back and have weeks of activity erased. Their social media feature set is unrivaled… when it works properly. Their implementation needs serious work, however.

I really enjoy the articles and the way they are

Flipboard has become my go‑to place to catch up on news and ideas in one clean, magazine‑style feed. It lets me follow topics I care about and skip endlessly hopping between different sites. I like how articles, videos, and social posts are all pulled together, and the page‑flip layout makes reading feel relaxed instead of frantic scrolling. I used to use this app once daily in the mornings to read the news, then I’d close out the app. I never gave this app permission to track my activity outside of the app. However, that what it appears it was doing for many months. I ran an app privacy report, and as it turned out, Flipboard was literally constantly accessing my personal data in order to sell it off, long after the app would be in use. I didn’t have background refresh on, so there was absolutely no reason for this. It was also draining my battery. Highly recommend deleting this app if you care about privacy, and don’t want cr

A Little Qwerky, But Oh So Convenient

I have enjoyed Flipboard since, well, maybe the beginning. The email feed with selected articles leads me deeper into my favorite subjects. In my daily routine, this added efficiency exposes me to info I am interested in (after all, I did specify the topic categories) without having to hunt it down. This broadens my reading horizons. My only complaint is linking to articles that I am not a subscriber to read and Flipboard does not offer specific article links for free. I guess these links may entice me to subscribe if I discover a new (to me) publication that I really like.

Ok Aggregator

A lot of people are complaining about ads and subscriptions from sources. That’s not in FB’s control, their job is to find all these stories across the web and just gather them in one place for ease of reading or collecting. That being said, I’ve noticed a distinct trend towards right wing/sports/celebrity content and away from unbiased sources on more serious topics like science, finance, real politics, etc. Also, the app will heat up your phone like an oven and kill your battery with a quickness. Needs Far More Balanced Coverage

I used to enjoy the app and would give it 5 stars but starting in or before 2016 and especially 2020 the coverage of political and related stories came predominantly from far left media outlets while dropping conservative and libertarian outlets or giving them far less coverage. Even FlipBoard’s editorials now might as well have been created by MSM and corporate media legacy outlets that likewise have become simply DNC and progressive voice boxes. Can’t get rid of unwanted articles

It seems that if I click on an article and say I want less of it, I end up getting more of it. For example, for some reason I keep getting obituaries. The more I tell him I don’t want to see obituaries the more obituaries I see I spent more time clicking on articles I don’t wanna see then actually reading articles. It is so incredibly annoying how many ads this app puts ON TOP of what it shows. Video ads occupy important space and block content. I know what the developers response will be: “these are from the websites” but I can say with reasonable confidence it is NOT TRUE. When I find interesting articles on archaeology, I always want to find books or other research to add to my interest in such topics. Finding these on Flipboard is always exciting. I’ve been using Flipboard for years now and used to love the app. It pulls news articles from multiple sources and lets you doom scroll as you wish. The problem though is it crashes every time I use it, and I have to re-open the app, thereby losing my spot. If that’s not enough, they have become very invasive with their ads, often completely blocking what you are reading to display an ad. Lately, the app has been acting very erratically. After you've been using it for 10 or 15 minutes, The app will slow down significantly. Scrolling through the pages of an article will begin hesitating and freezing. And then eventually, the app will just crash and close. This has been going on now for a few months. Sometime in January the privacy setting stopped the ability to comment on articles. You get a server error on your phone or absolutely no message on the website. To be able to comment again you have to go to settings and uncheck the Private Account checkbox. Must reinstall every 1-3 days

I’ve been a Flipboard user for 12 years and for the last 3 years it has become less and less stable with each new version and each new iOS release. I’m on the latest version, the latest iOS on a 2-year old iPad Pro so you’d think it would be stable. It helps to empty the cache every 10-15 minutes. But leaving the app temporarily to answer a text message usually means Flipboard hangs when rejoining the open app. And restarting the app means a series of “black Flipboard start screens” then app hangs again. I love this app, I love that I can filter out politics and celebrity news that I have 0 interest in. Getting glitchier with every update

I’ve been using Flipboard for several years now. I’ve noticed over the last couple of years that the glitches have been increasing in number, frequency, and severity. Most of them are visual glitches, such as one where the display suddenly goes super magnified and completely useless until you force quit. Some are more functional, such as the more recent glitch of the comment input field jumping the cursor to above the first line, almost completely outside of the field. When Flipboard started it accessed more credible“news sources, and you got to read the full articles much of the time. Now you get snippets of articles whose content is equivalent to social media jibberjabber leaving me wanting something with actual depth. I’ve been a long-time user of this app and loved it, except... The ads have increased to a point where I can’t get articles to load — at all. Or, the font is so small, that I need to expand the view, and then an ad pops up on the same stinkin article and blocks the entire view panel, I have to reduce the size, close the NEWLY added ad to the page, readjust the page view so I can go back to read it. I really like the app but there are formatting and navigation issues that irritate me

Great content. Poor app performance

I've used Flipboard for many years as my goto for reading diverse news outlets. A few months ago the app itself started performing poorly after an update, to the point where there are moments and places when the app does not work at all and just shows blank screen like trying to load. This even happens in places with 4-5 bars signal of 5G connection (and all other apps working great), which is really unacceptable. I hope they are able to fix this, but I have kept updating the app as soon as a new version is available and still have the same issues.

this used to be the best app, now it's nothing but advertising. it's gotten so bad that 50% of the time you can't even find the subject the article is supposed to be about because the page is 90% ads. it's obnoxious but it's also just the way things go these days. greed always wins out. sad, but par for the course i guess. i gave 3 stars instead of 1 because it did used to be a good app. maybe they can course correct but i doubt it since the ads aren't really from flipboard. either way i don't care, SOMETHING has to be done about this absurd "advertising".
