A Great Option to See Through Spin
In an era of 24 hour news channels that seem to have little interest in providing an honest, clear picture of what is actually happening in the world, the next best this is to be able to clearly see how multiple news organizations are covering the same events. Ground News is an amazing resource that helps me feel like I’m getting a better idea of what’s happening in the world. I can’t imagine navigating the current news landscape without it.

An honest and onerous review
Tis quite a gift we have in this company. My wife argued that if it’s so essential to humanity, why does it cost anything. While she is correct in that assumption, the reality is that workers deserve proper compensation for their time. That void is usually filled by advertisers, but advertisers have opinions and opinions from your source of income will never lead to unbiased journalism. Update wastes screen space
The updated version got rid of the fairly compact view, now every story has a large screen wasting image and it’s all just tired old stock images that add nothing to the story. Epstein story has the same Epstein photo you’ve already seen hundreds of times, Karoline Leavitt story has the same stock photo you see everywhere every time she’s mentioned, the photo of some gray stone building somewhere really adds depth and insight to the DOJ/Congress/Kennedy Center etc story. Not neutral at all, leans left in many ways
For a platform that advertises itself as basically a neutral arbiter of news, this app falls WAY, short of that. I’ve been doing a three month analysis of the “summaries“ of the major stories every single day, and… They always have a left-wing bias. It is a little gentle, not obtuse and super obvious like Apple news/yahoo/Google/BBC/NBC/MSNBC/CNN, etc., but it is absolutely there, and it is constant. I recommended this app to several people who subscribed, and then I had to apologize to them because I don’t feel like I can endorse it. I know I’m not alone in this complaint. Just don’t say you’

Repackaging and the IGNORE REQUESTS TO STOP SENDING EMAILS
To be fair, a nice compilation of news with attempted grading for left or right leaning. That was okay. Wanting to read any origin article linked to the source website with a barrage of ads, cookie requests, etc. the most negative thing about this company is they flat out ignore do not send me further results when you go to their communication preferences page. I have done this multiple times, over weeks now, and I still keep getting unwanted email from them. Sigh. Needs a few more basic usability features
Really like the approach and focus of the app and how it handles content. Only time will tell how I am able to appreciate its perspectives as presented and the breadth of what os covered. Probably the best news app
Actually the best news source I’ve found. I wonder if it can be studied whether groundnews itself has any institutional bias in what they show you but the system of showing you the relative bias based on what news sources published individual articles seems like the best system I’ve found to try to get an unbiased view of things. If I select “Show less like this” and then unselect topics, it just says my preferences can’t be updated. It shows the same stories all day even if I swipe down to reload. Even if I go into my preferences and update the topics I am interested in, it doesn’t change which stories are shown. There are a lot of stories that never show up, meanwhile my feed is constantly full of stuff I have no interest in. I thought this app would do a better job of showing me an overview of news but it’s more focused on showing you what’s trending online, not giving you an overview of the day’s news. I am bummed

Great service, convoluted app full of paywalls and ads
I use a certain browser in order to use Ad and DNS blocking. Ground News app forces internal browser with no option to set default behavior in its settings. If you want to open in external browser, first you have to open it there, thereby transmitting your data and accepting cookies and trackers from news sources, and only THEN can you open it in "reader" mode in an in-app "external" browser. They disallow you to easily select "open in Safari". I logged out and deleted my app upon finding this out. AI Does Cannot Read External Credibility Ratings
I was a fan of this service for a while, but it shows incorrect data from Media Bias/Fact Check. It seems to translate MBFC’s rating of “mostly factual” to high every time, despite MBFC having a separate rating of “high” above “mostly factual.” This means that many tabloid sources and state-run sources from hostile foreign countries are listed as “high factuality” within the Ground News app, despite the MBFC and Adfontes ratings putting these sources as “mixed factuality.” This issue seems to get worse with non-US sources, and it seems that a lot of Russian and Iranian propaganda outlets are r

iOS app works as expected. MacOS accepts TouchID then just remains on the screen and never actually logs in. Signing in as a Guest shows the private relay and says that I have a subscription but it remains on the free (which makes sense since that was the “Guest login”). I've found that I am constantly fact-checking the news before trusting what I read. This app allows me to see how different outlets are communicating the same news story and highlights which perspectives are being overlooked entirely. Great, But Not For Local News
This app is phenomenal for national and international news, but severely lacking for local news (or at least difficult and unintuitive to set up). I added my city as a topic and only stories that make national or international headlines shows up (and never in my main feed, I always have to click to it. But it’s not worth clicking over because I live in Vegas, and the only stories Ground shows me are about F1 racing lol). Where’s the trending stories?
The idea for the app is cool, but I was continuously frustrated to see less important stories of the day clutter my feed vs the headlines. By headlines I mean the stories splashed on the front page of every major newspaper—the ones you’d have to live under a rock to miss, but also the ones I was most curious about right/center/left coverage differences. In this app it was too difficult go find the huge trending stories of the day. Something is off with the algorithm or I didn’t know how to configure my feed right. I don’t intend to renew my subscription for this reason.

Obsessed with judges, no toggle
Was using ground news for a few years, but decided to finally delete it today. My biggest issue is a slight left leaning bias that affects their breaking news notifications. I very rarely got actual breaking news alerts from them, and if I did, they were sometimes several days late. I am very disappointed after having subscribed to Ground News. The label called “left blind spot” and “right blind spot” reveal the bias. Also the “highly factual” evaluations show this clear bias. I've only subscribed to the basic plan but it's been really helpful to see more news sources and in particular to see what stories are under reported on either end of the political spectrum and how the headlines phrase the exact same story. Wherever you land on the issues, I think most of us would agree we often don’t see eye-to-eye on even basic facts these days. You do have to pay for most of the stuff it offers, but it is absolutely worth it.
