Excellent journalism, app less so
No comments on the journalism, which is excellent. The app is broadly good, but the previous version was much more stable. There are too many videos and distractions on this version: reading was easier before the last major update. I also find the Weekend page a bit confusing, with articles that can be scrolled like an Instagram story.

Latest version of the app is a step back!
I gave two stars simply because The Economist is the best magazine out there, otherwise, it would have been a one.
The latest app is truly a step back compared to the previous one.
After you read an article, this is not not always marked as read, so, the reader looses track of what he/she has completed or not.
Additionally, one cannot highlight anymore a single word and translate it or look for pronounciation.
One has to select the entire article and translate it, otherwise he/she needs to deselect the entire text, select again the word you’re looking for (maybe within a 12 minutes long articl

The content is top quality as usual, but the new app recently updated presents some key issues: text size inconsistent across the articles (and cannot be changed); same for audio bars logo, they keep changing in size and they look fine only once you click on them. Plesse fix these issues

Clunky app ruins the experience
The content is 10/10 and I’m a subscriber. But the app is quite another story. Someone made wrong strategic decisions at some point regarding the technology and it shows.
It’s quite disturbing that an organization with such high caliber people would choose to build an app that’s ruining the image of the brand.

Aggiornamento agosto 2024. Da quasi un anno o forse di più, nonostante diversi aggiornamenti, l'app è lenta, smette di rispondere per qualche secondo e rende sgradevole la fruizione degli altrimenti ottimi articoli e contenuti dell'Economist. Anche la funzione audio presenta problemi, ogni tanto bloccandosi e lamentando misteriosi problemi (ma basta riprovare a riprodurre il contenuto e riprende… boh). Non sto usando dispositivi vecchi (uno di questi è un iPad M1) e non ho problemi con altre app; non aiuta eliminare e reinstallare l'app (ed eliminare la cache è impossibile). Per favore aggiorn

Key feature missing: saved articles sync cross device
It’s very frustrating I cannot retrieve the full list of articles I saved on my devices, because every device is displaying only the articles saved in that device. E.g. if I save an article on the iPhone app I can’t find it in the “saved” section on the iPad app. l consider it as an unmissable feature.

about the app, not the content
This app is just a slow web browser, nothing else. It doesn't really save the login, lose bookmarks and it's incredibly slow on iPhone 14. Offline contents doesn't work if you have a flaky connection because it tries to go to the internet but data exchange never ends. Given the price of subscription... save the budget for app developers and give them to journalists. No reason to have an app which is the bad useless copy of the website

Still too many bugs
Whilst I am relentlessly dogged by dozens of other websites and apps that find me no matter how hard I try to cover my tracks, it boggles me that The Economist still fails to recognise me, demanding daftly that I log in, time and again, each time I happen to stumble upon an article on social media, be it Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn, and Quixotically attempt to jump seamlessly to the content. Equally, I remain unable to gift an article from the app or create a playlist of the audio articles I want to listen to during my commute (the later a missing feature, not a faulty one). Devo dire che il sito web è molto meglio dell’app, il primo motivo è che non c’è pubblicità nel mezzo dell’articolo, due il layout è più comodo. L’app al contrario sopratutto sull’iPad sembra una brutta versione del sito con una impaginazione e layout che non giustificano l’utilizzo di un app… la vecchia app almeno aveva degli accorgimenti tipografici e il layout su due colonne che rendevano l’esperienza dell’iPad più vicina alla versione stampata.

GOOD PLATFORM FOR NEWS AND DEEP-RESEARCH JOURNALISM
I appreciate the app, since it offers a adequate combination of short arcticles, news and deep-researched journalism. The only suggestion from my side is to offer a better enlargement for the texts and the audio version of all articles in order to reduce barriers for people with visual impairment.

Terrible experience
I subscribed to the Economist 4 months ago (paying the subscription).
The Economits entered a wrong credential in my mail (they wrote an “u” instead of an “o” in my mail address).
My office and I sent several mails asking for a correction and this still has to happen.
Really a very poor service.
In 1-2 years The Economis may fix this, let’s see..

Not recognizing iTunes subscription with the new version
Hi, despite I have a subscription valid until Jan 2023, after the new version was released I can’t read articles and I’m prompted to to a page asking for subscribing or restore iTunes purchase; this last option, when chosen, gives constantly an error message. Thanks for fixing it

Please, since the quality of the content is remarkable, allow us to select the full articles. In this way we could process a full translation. I know part of the learning experience of reading The Economist lies in its traditional British language, but I am also pretty sure the average reader feels frustrated about piling articles he wants to read but can’t due to timing issues. Allowing us to translate articles would result in a deeper understanding and a shortening of the reading process. This would increase customers’ satisfaction :)

I don’t get why the website has much more content on the homepage than the app does. The app limits itself to 10/11 articles. The website’s homepage has a lot more sections and content.
Some other nice to haves would be: 1) save new words 2) browse the weekly edition’s pages rather than just see a list of its articles
