I have used this app for years without any serious issues. Yesterday, the app wasn’t working, so I paid with a card because the cashier told me I could still get my usual stars if I entered it into the app. There was no area to enter a receipt, so I started a customer service chat on the app. They told me that even though I paid with a card because their app wasn’t working, I was being courteous to the line of people behind me, and I was not wasting their supplies, I only got half the stars I usually get.
