First of all, we were on the tarmac for over three hours because of a “communication problem.” Then they told us we could deplane if we wanted to because we would not have entertainment. Then they told us the flight was canceled, and the airline would automatically book us a new flight and a hotel. So, we got our own hotel after an hour of NOT getting any messages or confirmations about rebooking. The pilot spoke to the passengers in French giving detailed updates, but he only gave a sentence or two in English that was not understandable. There was a flight attendant on the plane who spoke
