Obstreperousness

Preface: I started using the app again and decided to read through reviews from the past year or so since I left my most recent review. It seems clear that most people must be using this app on iPads and/or older/cheaper iPhones without the “dynamic island” hardware limitation. It’s still usable, but made difficult by the incorrect GUI scaling (too small, partially blocked and locked to the upper-left quadrant of the display). Are other people with newer iPhones not experiencing this issue? Or do you all just overlook it or think it’s supposed to be like that? This app has been mostly great o

• The location shown on people’s profiles needs to be their city, town, or municipality—not the neighborhood they live in! Who thought that was a good idea?! First, it’s sort of classist or potentially encourages classism. Second, some people live in very small neighborhoods where it would be far easier to find exactly where they live with a quick Internet and/or public records search. And third, in the absence of any distance information, it’s just confusing. If the “this is a dealbreaker” box isn’t selected, people from well beyond a user’s preferred distance—possibly hours away—may be shown

Nice, purpose-built app for classical music. I love how the browse section is divided into categories for composers, periods, etc. Additionally, I appreciate the aggregated list of works for each composer, the editor’s picks, etc. The multitude of playlists for seemingly everything are also wonderful. My biggest complaint is the lack of a shuffle option for playlists. It would be great if that can be added in a future update.

Similar to the desktop computer version, Adblock Plus is detected by certain websites which will display a warning and/or block you from using the website until you disable it. I abandoned Adblock Plus on desktops/laptops many years ago in favor of a much better ad blocker. Unfortunately, that much better ad blocker isn’t available for iOS. Adblock Plus is still clinging to their “allow acceptable ads” by default policy, as well. They took heat for this a long time ago when they were more or less extorting companies to be added to their “allowlist” if they paid up. There are better options

Those 99+ likes that you have—which OkCupid incessantly hounds you to purchase a Premium subscription for—are mostly from people who live thousands of miles away on different continents. What is the point of that? People aren’t on OkCupid to find pen pals—we want people who live nearby so that we can meet in-person and build a meaningful relationship. It seems that the Passport feature only exists to fool people into believing that they have a lot of likes from nearby users so they’ll pay for a Premium subscription to see who they are.
