FUN NEW THINGS: Dress your monster up as a princess, a superhero, a unicorn or a dinosaur! Win snazzy new certificates for every game your monster completes. You can now play practice mode with logged in monsters and we’ve also improved the interface to make it easier to jump into the game. The popular running mini-game has been updated so it’s smoother to play. There are more exciting prizes in the first game and the stars you collect are now carried across all three games. Many small bugs have been fixed, including a multi-logout error, a keyboard bug when entering star codes and a proxy-related issue. We’ve also improved our error reporting in case of future ‘monsters in the system’. Let us know what you think and please leave a review. The Island Kings have been brought to life with a wealth of new animations and expressions. Multiple players can now login simultaneously (in the login-mode). Music volume has been lowered and phoneme files changed so that letter sounds are easier to hear. Small bug fixes, gameplay and usability improvements.

Disappointing Update

Update: The TYM team was really receptive and responsive to feedback about their update. I appreciate their communication and transparency. They followed up and said current paid users get full access to the new app/update. Thank you! Feb 21, 2026: I paid for the original app in full and am pretty frustrated to hear that it is now switching to a subscription model. The app is only giving 45 days notice (which they’re calling “providing this notice well in advance”) and a free trial. I originally really enjoyed this app for gamifying reading for my son but this sudden switch up is really disa

I must give credit where credit is due, the developer listened to feedback regarding how the shift to a subscription model was unfair to those that already paid for the full app experience. My child absolutely loved this app, and it became a great supplement to our reading journey. Literally taught my kid to read

We put this and Teach Your Monster Numbers on an old iPad for our kid as a timed reward for potty training when M&Ms no longer did the trick. 10-20 minutes per successful potty trip. I bought this app to help reinforce my son’s phonics skills in reading. The app was helpful and made it fun. The downside of this app was how much subliminal messages he would see playing the app. There were so many false rainbows trying to normalize depravity that I deleted it. Now as a critic I usually don’t test….baby games but the game has around 21k reviews so I decided why not? When I played the game there wasn’t a stupid fee for a game advertised as FREE thankfully (I’m looking at you SIMPLY PIANO) anyways. The game is very interactive. The kids can definitely learn. customize their avatar. And follow a fun story! (now I don’t have any KIDS and I’m not planning on having some. But if I did I would download this game for them. My 7 year old daughter struggles with reading and writing, and I had been trying to find learning apps that work for her. When I came across this one, my mind was blown. I love the mix of entertainment and academic this app has, and she has been improving by day playing this!! The chest prize at the end of each mini game excites and motivates her to continue so she can collect enough stars for accessories. Overall, my only issue would be that it’s a little repetitive. I don’t wanna say this too soon, but she’s finished multiple planets and I’ve noticed her starting to get bored after playing.

Too fast for preschoolers

It’s really fun and my preschooler likes it BUT a lot of the games are set on a speed which is too fast for him to be able to play - the designer needs to consider slowing the games down a bit so preschoolers can play. A lot of them are new to iPads and it can get frustrating if the game runs so fast they can never win or even navigate themselves around. Also the app covers letter sounds too fast. Honestly not that bad

I’m going to be perfectly honest here, this game has fun mini games and no bugs at all from my experience, but the one issue I have with it is that it doesn’t really help children once they learn to read. Once they can read, it just becomes kind of useless for the child. In my experience, it was a fun game overall that did what it was supposed to do quite well! To anyone who’s reading this and looking for an app to help your child learn to read, this might be your best bet.
