Treasure trove of content
There are thousands upon thousands of hours of content available in the public domain. The volunteer readers are generally quite good and listen-able. There are also some professionally released items, such as from the British Broadcasting Corporation. Why needs to pay for an audiobook subscription?!??

Totally recommend
It’s a great app. They have tons of very good classics and good narrators and there all free which is even better. Most free apps will bombard you with so many adds or try to get you to buy the premium version or something. But LibriVox does none of that you get an add here and there but you can immediately skip it. Because of LibriVox I’ve been able to read many amazing classics in fact i just finished the Invisible Man (the narrator was great in that) but you gotta try it.

Loud audio ads a real problem
Librivox as a website is great, and this app, while sometimes a little frustrating with the banner ads and ad pages between other pages was a good way to listen to librivox audiobooks on the go. But apparently now it’s also including LOUD startling audio ads between chapters. This makes the app useless for anyone who wants to use it to listen to books to relax or fall asleep.

The app used to be wonderful, but it no longer keeps accurate track of where you are in a book. We go back to listen the next day and it has skipped ahead. Sometimes it is several chapters. I find that unacceptable. Also, books will disappear from playlists I make for my kids. Very frustrating app.

Latest update was not good, love the content
I love the free audio books and the content is great. However after the most Rex update it’s much harder to find things and the biggest problem I have is that there used to be a play tracker thing at the bottom of the home screen when you open the app that was saved at the last spot you were listening. Now I have to find the book I was listening to (not so was as it uses to be) and hope that it saved my spot. Please go back to how it used to be.

Really frustrated
I have not adjusted to the latest upgrade (actually downgrade) and find myself turning to other apps with more user friendly interface. Every action is less intuitive and more tedious. Alphabetical thumbnails are useless for longtime listeners who have opened many books. I want to continue listening to the last book I was listening to, not the book that starts with A. Please please just put it back the way it was. If you do, I will forgive your losing my carefully saved and curated collections when you deployed this deplorable new version.

Don’t update if you have an older version
The new update is much more cumbersome to use. Old stuff is first and difficult to get rid of. Stuff you are currently listening to is hidden deep. Stuff you are in the middle of is almost impossible to find between sessions. But the fact that this app exists is good.

I’m having a terrible time trying to navigate this upgraded app. I can’t figure out how to keep my books in their category and find the book I’m listening to. They seem to be so jumbled up. I thought I had it all figured and books separated but nope. Also the book I’m listening to gets shoveled in with others and I have to go searching! Frustrating. I really don’t want to give up because I like the old books. So now I’m wondering, what’s up with so many newer books??? Are they self published books???

Terrible new update
The concept of LibriVox has been great. A huge library of public domain books read by volunteer readers. It can be hit or miss with the readers, some are amazing while others can be terrible and ruin the book. Some books are collaborations with multiple readers reading different chapters. You used to be able to see the name of each reader next to each chapter, now that feature is gone. With the new update, If I want to take a break from a book, listen to another and then go back to the previous book then I now have a hard time finding the previous book. Thanks for the free audiobooks!!! I listen to it all the time. It's part of my bedtime routine to listen as I'm falling asleep, it helps with my anxiety. (Try it if you have it!) The new update comes with some issues I wanted to mention for future updates. It rearranged my books and also makes it impossible (?) to delete books that I've already listened to, which makes it more difficult to find the one I'm right in the middle of, bc it's very crowded. How any serious developer could take a mediocre app and make it even worse is beyond me. Does anyone who worked on it actually ever use it? No history, half the buttons and links don’t work. I like you app, but the new update is not good! The new update looks nice, but there is no way to delete stuff I don’t want to continue listening too. There is no easy way to delete other things either. A lot of my save things were lost and the screen keeps freezing. Overall, it is not user friendly. I felt the previous version was user friendly. 2025 update causing problems
I agree with other users about the latest update. I got on today to find a book for a road trip to discover MY COLLECTIONS I spent hours organizing are GONE with no notice!! Only the folders remain! The back arrows don’t function, making navigation tedious. I can get to general favorites but I had saved and organized many individual things in collections. I love LibriVox books, bit this app damage was such a sad surprise and step backwards :( deleting our personalized collections just to add pretty pictures to the headings?

I’ve been subscribing to ad free lv for years. Came back to the app recently and saw it was visually updated. However, I can’t tap on the settings wheel at the top, on the … at the top when I pull up a title. So the old clunky interface was better. With this current version I can’t even add a new title to favorites!

Latest Update Has Issues
The latest version of the LibriVox app on iOS has some serious issues. Putting aside the fact that I seem to have lost all of the content under my collections, the gear/settings icon doesn’t seem to respond at all and response of the three dots icon when I have a book displayed is spotty at best. The arrow icon in the ULH corner also doesn’t seem to be responding. This is on an iPhone 11 w/iOS 18.3.2 and 21Gb of storage available.

Crashing
Update: the issue previously mentioned seems to be specific to some files. I am now getting others to play. I love this app when it works. Amazing amount of public domain material! Great way to move through the classics. Previous: The app, after about half a minute of listening, closes. When I open it up again, I have to start the file from the beginning. Time and time again this happens. I can’t get the file to continue. Frustrating bug, making listening impossible. I even upgraded to the no ad version to see if that would fix it. Same thing.
