Strictly for the duration of any school excursion, the FieldTripMe™ app provides teachers with the option to track students’ locations, helps navigate all participants through the trip, delivers teachers' learning points and activities along the way, alerts teachers to checkpoints reached and boundaries crossed and provides a secure means of messaging – solely between teachers and students. During the planning phase, teachers use the FieldTripMe™ website to set-up and manage all aspects of a field trip, share information with their administrators and plan learning experiences for their students. For the duration of the trip, the app provides teachers with the option to track students’ locations, helps navigate all participants through the trip, delivers teachers' learning points and activities along the way, alerts teachers to checkpoints reached and boundaries crossed and provides a secure means of messaging – solely between teachers and students. Parents/guardians use the FieldTripMe™ website to register their students, learn about upcoming trips, complete permission forms and even make payment for all trip expenses. When an educator is able to extend their lesson beyond the bounds of a school, a higher level of cultural, historical, mathematical, linguistic and scientific enlightenment can begin. Such limitless learning immerses students in the real world and creates moments that evolve into passion and vocation. With both a school administrator and a Spanish teacher on our team, we share a clear educational philosophy: in order for students to grow into globally aware citizens, they must experience as much of life as possible while empowering themselves with the gift of knowledge. We believe that the most effective way to bring the world to students is to bring students into the world – and do so in the safest, most rewarding way possible. Guiding students outside of the classroom has always been a daunting challenge, but never more so than today. Despite having the most detail-driven plan, a field trip can still result in an unfulfilling venture or – in the worst case – an unsafe situation … we've all read the headlines. So to put our educational principles into practice, our educators teamed with a developer to help all involved in the field trip process – students, parents/guardians, teachers and administrators – achieve a better outcome. The result is FieldTripMe™. Students with smartphones use the FieldTripMe™ app during the defined hours of the trip to follow the planned route and know their teacher's or chaperone's locations. They have access to their teacher's supporting files, factoids and activities to make direct, in-the-moment connections between what they're living and what they're learning. At any time during the trip, a student can alert their teacher or chaperone to a potentially dangerous situation or request immediate assistance ... all through the FieldTripMe™ app (phone numbers are never exchanged) and only for the duration of the trip (contact concludes when the trip ends).
