ASA’s Sailing Challenge (for iPhone/iPad) includes six fun, easy-to-use modules that unlock the mysteries of sailing. Learn Points of Sail, Apparent Wind, Sail Trim, Tacking and Jibing, Rules of the Road, and Docking. Then, put it all together when you sail around a course against the clock in the Sailing module.
Sailing Challenge combines the most innovative thinking in the digital education field with ASA’s experience in teaching sailing to create a game that lets players climb aboard, take control of the tiller in one hand and the mainsheet in the other, and sail off on a virtual sea of fun. When the ASA says the fun starts here, we really mean it!

I was very excited to try this app. . . Unfortunately I had to pay for it and then pay for a boat upgrade and then pay for weather.

…and frankly I’m very happy that the developers using a Beneteau. It’s the perfect boat for a simulation: you hit a boat, you sink. Even hitting a buoy, you sink. So authentic, just brilliant.

The points of sail tests are quite helpful for beginners. The sailing simulation is basic, but enough to practice some trimming fundamentals and rudimentary navigation. Overall, a useful app for new sailors, but one they will quickly (hopefully) outgrow.

I was slightly disappointed by the lack of content in this app. As mentioned in other reviews, this app does not take very long to complete.
Suggestions for future updates:

-reefing/reducing sail area
-lee helm/weather helm
-navigation
-catamaran sailing option
-motorsailing
-sailing with waves
-capsize in excessive wind
-practice mode with conditions such as windspeed and direction to be decided/changed by user

ASA need to push the content
First off disproportionately costly for what "we" can get for similar dollar value. Anchoring, storm simulation, points of a compass challenges, applications of knots and the list goes on. I would encourage a beefing up of the potential our sport offers. Sailing boats and design identification, night lights identification and travel. There is a lot of real potential here and in this day and age you have the opportunity to be the definitive go to app. What does exist is great for beginners. I would encourage Beneteau to take some initiative in working with you (ASA) in take this app to the next

Lovely graphics, light on content
I teach sailing theory and I was excited about the prospect of this app. Unfortunately, a great idea trickled away somewhere in the creative process. Being brutally honest, for a pricey product from a highly respected group, the American Sailing Association, this is content light. It would take no more than an hour or two for any beginner to absorb the 'modules'. A good effort has been made to engage users with excellent animations and graphics, but, ultimately, this will disappoint anyone genuinly interested in learning to sail or to improve their understanding of sail theory and practice.
