Description

Pythonista is a complete scripting environment for Python 3.10, running right on your iPad or iPhone, so you can develop and run Python scripts on the go. Like Python itself, "batteries are included" – from popular third-party modules like requests, numpy, matplotlib, pandas (and many more) to modules that are tailor-made for iOS. With Pythonista, your scripts can access sensor/location data, your photo library, contacts, reminders, the clipboard, and more, allowing you to harness the full potential of both Python and iOS. Pythonista is designed with a user-friendly interface that makes it easy for anyone to get started with coding, regardless of skill level. Pythonista 3.3 App Store Release Notes • Support for dark mode on iOS 13 – you can now select separate themes for light/dark mode, and Pythonista will switch automatically between them. Switching between themes is also a bit faster now. • New custom keyboard ("PyKeys") for running scripts in any app with text input. Have a look at the sample scripts in the Examples/Keyboard folder for some ideas of what you can do with this. • Significantly improved support for external keyboards (more contextual shortcuts, arrow-key navigation almost everywhere…) • The outline (list of functions) in the editor can now be filtered -- just start typing if the keyboard is already active, or drag down the list to reveal the filter text field. The filter supports fuzzy matching, and you can enter line numbers as well. • Unified UI (and documentation) for creating script shortcuts in various places of iOS ("Shortcuts" option in the "wrench" menu). • New URL generator for easier inter-app automation (you can also use this with the Shortcuts app, but full Shortcuts support will come later). • Support for opening external folders using the system's file picker on iOS 13 (this was possible on iOS 12, but not easily discoverable). • Revamped `notifications` module with custom action buttons, support for attachments, location triggers, and more – see the new "Notification Quiz.py" sample code for a demo. This is a fantastic app. I have been able to do a lot of work on my iPhone and iPad with it. It's reasonably intuitive to find tools and negotiate it to accomplish real goals. I would absolutely love to have some more libraries supported or at least have the ability to add them ourselves with pip. If I run out of space, I'd like that to be my concern :). Nice product folks. More expansively would be a huge delight. I bought it years ago, would pay a reasonable fee to get significantly enhanced capabilities. Not sure if PyTorch could fit on my 16 ProMax but I'd love to give it a try 🙏😁

Beware of significant limitations
This app will not produce interactive plots in a separate window. Instead, it will produce only a static plot in line with the console. Also beware that the app uses an older outdated version of Matplotlib. If you’re transferring a python script that you originally wrote on a desktop system, you may be in for a rude surprise.

The only reason I’m giving a 3 star is because occasionally it will crash when opening a folder for some reason and although that’s not to bad I feel that could cause me some problems when I dive deeper into coding. Weird bug. Very good app though!
If you run an empty file saying license(), then in the console, say q, it will lead you to the actual interpreter. Then if you type quit() the ENTIRE app closes. Try it!

Doesn’t work well on Vision Pro
For some reason when using a keyboard on the Vision Pro, when you hit the delete key it closes the app. Other than that major issue it seems to be a great IDE, but obviously that breaks the use case because you can’t ever hit the delete key. I tried to look up what was causing the issue, but it seems the two fix actions of delete and redownload, or turn off and on did not remedy. So I requested the refund. I will be back if this problem gets fixed!

Works surprisingly well on Mac!
I wanted a clean, sandboxed Python environment without a lot of fuss and this does just the trick. I would suggest that the developer adapt this with Mac Catalyst a bit more to leverage Mac’s document-based windows and have the ability to save to the Finder. It works great as-is, so I bet a made-for-Mac version isn’t too intensive to convert to. Would be a great way get more customers

Disappointed: Refund Denied for Unusable App
I downloaded the Pythonista app to modify an Apple setting to auto-run on command. While the app provides detailed pictures of its layout, I quickly found it overwhelming. This app is clearly designed for users who already have a solid understanding of Python and know how to navigate complex UI interfaces. Unfortunately, it doesn’t teach you how to use Python or how to make the app work for your needs. I requested a refund through Apple, stating that the app didn’t work as I expected, but my request was denied. I feel like I wasted my money and cannot recommend this app to beginners or anyone

Best Python app for mobile I have used yet
Hey all, I have been using this app for the past 3 years for recreational coding and as a geek, I very often use Pythonista in my free time. The UI is amazing, the templates are cool and the only sad thing about this app is at it can run lots of packages such as Pygame, but for some packages you can use package installer called StaSh. 5 stars for reliability and how robust it is for such a simple app. It has an excellent team backing it and has so many capabilities it will astound you.

The main page of my launcher has animated GIF buttons plus emojis to launch favorite apps. An alphabet search is displayed at bottom of main page to launch lesser used apps. Hackers Paradise
Was super excited to learn Python and read that Pythonista was the best for iPad Pro and iPhone. Unfortunately, what I didn’t know at the time was it’s a hackers paradise and can be easily used to steal your information or implant spyware. The library allows for “built-ins” or modules which can easily be configured without the primary user and device owner’s knowledge. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if you could simply delete the files…spoiler alert: you cannot delete files which have been locked by the unauthorized user. Hi Pythonistas, thank you for making the app, would it please be possible to have a more serious solution to the PyPi installs on iPhone? This app is a game changer and this would make it exponentially better Specifically, just wanted to get sklearn today, but there are tons of packages and it would be great if we could pip install in Pythonista, is that feasible?

Almost great
I don't do heavy duty coding, but I need to be able to run some simple python scripts from shortcuts... and this app does it. Unfortunately, triggering those shortcuts via my Apple Watch seems to cause the result of the shortcut to hang. The shortcut seemingly completes, but leaves the shortcut looking as though it's "in process" for quite a long time. What gives?
