I booked a flight through Trip.com and a few hours later contacted their customer service to change the flight date by just one day. Their representative confirmed that they spoke with the airline and that it was possible to move the ticket to the next day. Based on that confirmation, I immediately booked a non-refundable hotel for the new dates. However, instead of changing the flight date, Trip.com completely canceled my flight without any refund, and then asked me to pay the full price for a new ticket on the following day.
