I've been playing for years. Originally signed up to "build a city," like the old days but got sucked into wars, which was very addicting. Recently, however, EA introduced VU pass which took all the fun out of wars. It used to be "play" to earn rewards and now it's "pay" to earn rewards to the tune of $50 a month to keep a vu pass going. EA does not listen to the hoards of players who hate the vu pass because all they see is dollar signs. Vu pass has taken all the fun and excitement out of wars and competing in different arenas.
