Revised review: despite not answering, the developers did fix the issue with giving time instead of axes; the game now shows the one you’ll get (it alternates from week to week). I haven’t had the issue with none of the ropes sticking in a while; occasionally there’s a level where it’s hard to find a play, though. But that’s what the axes and extra time are for. Also, I’m not sure how this works with playing against others. It is weird.
