Update Feb 2024: Dropped to 1 star following the developer lackluster response. Memrise was once a great app. The app changes and the addition of the Memebot is really, really bad. It’s like the app developers so desperately want to say they use AI, and they forced this awkward chat bot in the middle of the app. The conversation level is completely out of place with where you are in learning. You can reply with gibberish to get through the exercise and it will say you did a good job. Even if you don’t share your contacts, Clubhouse uses your phone number (as part of their sign up process) to check if any other clubhouse users who HAS synced their contacts has your number. If so, they “recommend” users based on your phone number being in other people’s contacts. This is a major violation of data privacy, given that you, the user, are NOT giving Clubhouse consent to use your phone number or your contacts but they do it anyway. After reviewing their Privacy Policy, it’s shocking how they use and profit off of questionable - and I would argue borderline illegal - consumer data
