I want to like it but it has a really bad habit of forcing itself into my network all the time. I’d like to use it “as needed” but never automatically.

Beyond the fact that the UI is so difficult to use that I feel like I'm slogging through mud - the ads on the bottom, plus taking up 50% of the screen inline of the content mean you have very little screen real estate left to scroll and read. Then after two articles a full screen ad comes in. Sometimes it's a video ad that wakes my wife up in the morning. Not a good experience. Finally I'm deleting the app.
