There are ads every couple levels. Skins require you to watch an ad before you can get it even though you already earned the skin by winning levels. And if it's not ads, you get pop-ups that encourage you to buy an upgrade or whatever.

I checked my battery usage because something was sucking my battery dry even as I slept and even with Pokémon Go's adventure sync turned off. I was surprised to discover the battery drain was caused by Dropbox???! Being what it is, I assumed it would just turn itself on, check for updates and then turn back off again.
