As someone who spends way too much time staring into trees trying to decide if that tiny blur is a warbler or just a leaf, I really do enjoy the Merlin app from Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The best part is that you do not need expensive microphones, binoculars, or fancy birding gear to use it. You can just pull out your phone, hit sound ID, and suddenly Merlin is telling you there are six birds screaming at each other in the woods that you never would have noticed.
