The ads are annoying, admittedly, but I rarely need a VPN, so naturally I don’t want to subscribe to one that I will rarely be using. I just use this free VPN once or twice a month to access a US based website I would normally be able to access in the US, but the website administrator has international access blocked for security reasons. This fits that need perfectly and I’ll accept the annoying ads in exchange. If I used a VPN every day to stream Netflix or something, then I would definitely pay for either ad-free or potentially a different VPN service, depending on my current location. (D
