Great OCR with only one remark

FineReader is well known for its superior OCR quality and this app stands for its name. The only thing I wished it done better is Searcheable PDFs. For some reason, FineReader modifies original PDF by replacing image text with recognized text. IMO documents appear to be a bit fabricated and I really like approach by Adobe Scan and others that keep scanned image text intact and instead place background text so it remain searchable while keeping original image intact.

As of August, 2023, ABBYY discontinued their support and switched off the excellent OCR features that once made it the best OCR app around. It is now very inaccurate and almost useless! Scans: below average. OCR: Excellent

If you’re seeking high-quality scans then look at other options, including free. 50% of scans must be taken manually otherwise the app will never recognize the document borders. 75% of scans require reframing. Filters are the lowest quality. If your primary need is OCR then this is a solid choice; however, others may have near OCR quality with much higher scan quality. If given the choice I’d have opted for another app.

A world-class OCR app

In 1988, I purchased one of the first OCR scanners on the market for $12,000. Since that time, I have purchased several OCR desktop applications. But none of these can measure up to the ABBYY FineReader PDF Pro. It is without peer in the OCR scanning market. I can now do better, and more efficiently, on my iPad what any desktop software can do. I highly recommend this product to anyone needing to convert image to text or convert between a variety of formats. book scanning poor

I have had no luck with book scanning which is why I bought it. sending images back to their server takes forever. app should store all images locally. I purchased the pro version and book scanner products for iOS. They discontinued both. They will not upgrade their replacement product for me. Which means I am unsupported. I have been had any good scans from either app. It sends the data to their server for processing which takes some time and produces bad results. They are in another country

Not worth the price

Update: after spending $50 on this app, they are still spamming me and trying to now get a subscription fee. This is a terrible app and not worth the money. I purchased this in order to quickly scan several cookbooks that I have. This app has several flaws: -Poor edge detection Once you take photos of the book pages, you must go through and manually pick the edge of the book. This is tedious and other apps do a much better job with much less manual intervention. -Long processing time After the edges of the book are marked, the images must be processed and sent to their servers. Highly accurate OCR when you send it to Abby server. And saving as ocr’d pdf saves a ton of space. The book feature I have only tried on a few pages. Seems to work pretty well but the flatter the pages, the better.
