What’s New Version 7.0

• Fixed iPhone rotation bugs on some older iOS versions. • Internal changes to reduce Cine Meter II’s risk of technological obsolescence.

Description

Cine Meter II measures light and color, so you can light and shoot and know what you'll get. “Cine Meter II is an essential app for every cinematographer.” — Jon Fauer, ASC “[T]he perfect app to have with you at all times.” — Roberto “Ganzo” Schaefer, ASC, AIC It's a zoomable spotmeter with an RGB waveform monitor and a false-color picture. It's an incident meter using a Lenny Hat or other diffusion, or Lumu™ Lite attachment, with lux and foot-candle readouts. (Lumu Power is NOT supported, and flash metering is NOT possible.) It's a color meter, showing color temperature and green/magenta tint, and giving you corrections to or from your target color. Measure more than just shutter-priority or aperture-priority: calculate shutter speed, shutter angle, aperture, ND, or ISO directly. • The exposure meter shows your stop as a decimal value (for cameras with EVF iris readouts) or as a full stop and fraction (for cine lenses with marked iris rings). Cine Meter II lets you use shutter angles – ideal for Digital Bolex and Blackmagic cameras – as well as speeds, and you can dial in ND filters and arbitrary exposure compensations. The spotmeter is zoomable up to 15x magnification (on devices that support camera zooming), using either the front or back camera. • The waveform monitor shows you how light levels vary across a scene. You'll see how smooth and even the lighting is on a greenscreen or background, and find subtle hotspots and shadows at a glance. The waveform’s RGB mode shows you color imbalances in the image and gives you a handy way to check color purity and separation for chroma-keying. • False-color mode lets you define allowable contrast ranges, and see instantly which shadows are underexposed and what highlights risk clipping. _______________________ READ BEFORE YOU BUY: Cine Meter II is NOT a flash meter; it can't measure strobes. Cine Meter II does NOT work with Lumu Power (the Lightning port Lumu), only Lumu Lite (the headphone jack Lumu). Cine Meter II gives you *absolute* light meter readings, but *relative* picture and waveform monitor levels: Cine Meter II’s picture and waveform monitor do not use the *exact* exposure shown by the light meter (they are close to the meter reading, but can differ from it slightly). The picture and waveform monitor show you *relative* levels within a scene, not *absolute* levels based on the meter reading. Shutter speeds, apertures, and ISOs shown in Cine Meter II are for metering purposes only and do not control the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO of the iPhone camera. The iPhone camera uses whatever exposure settings it needs to capture a reading. Cine Meter II is a light and color meter only; it is *not* a camera simulator. Build 885737462v7.02026-05-17 20:59:08
• Fixed iPhone rotation bugs on some older iOS versions. • Internal changes to reduce Cine Meter II’s risk of technological obsolescence.
Build 883323035v6.02026-03-14 20:13:08
• Bug fixed: negative compensation values can now be set again. • Camera indicator’s green glow automatically detected during Front Incident readings. Turn it off in Settings if you don’t want Cine Meter II to warn you about it, or if you use a Luxi™ diffuser.
Build 880861299v5.22026-01-08 09:02:15
Updated for iOS/iPadOS 26.
Build 876017492v5.12025-07-24 10:14:23
• Fixed layout bugs when starting with the device face-up or face-down, and on iPads with multiple windows. • Fixed missing status message when the camera isn’t running.
Build 864153217v5.02024-03-20 04:38:24
• Simplified exposure and color meter calibration using only your iDevice’s cameras (details in Help > Quick Start). • Color calibration lets you set both CCT and tint, or x and y if you’re using Show Chromaticity. Tint gain is no longer used. (You can turn on Legacy Color Calibration in Settings to do things the old way.) • “Pure” measurement mode: turn off Show Exposure Controls to declutter the display and focus on brightness and color values.
Build 852181880v4,52022-09-14 14:38:51
• You can display color readings as CIE 1931 x,y values: use Help & Settings > Show Chromaticity. • You can fetch brightness and color data remotely using HTTP: use Help & Settings > Enable Web Server.
Build 845031069v4.42021-11-11 19:30:34
• You can now choose which back camera to use for incident readings, on iDevices with multiple back cameras. • “Luxi” settings now called “Incident Meter” settings, as Luxis are getting very hard to find and most people will use other diffusion.
Build 844414703v4.32021-10-01 01:16:39
Updated for new iPad mini.
Build 842631302v4.22021-06-12 01:45:36
• Fixed the partially hidden landscape mode screenshot title on iPhones. • Design cleanup: the last vestiges of the old iOS 5&6 look and feel have been hunted down and eradicated.
Build 835659297v4.12020-04-27 18:00:23
• Disable all unwanted “sensors”, leaving only those you normally use (for example: enable Front Luxi and Back Spotmeter, disable all the rest). • Display color tint as Wratten CC number, plusgreen/minusgreen value, or ∆uv. • Save calibration data to a file, so you can delete and reinstall Cine Meter II without losing your calibration. • Haptic feedback on haptics-compatible iDevices. • Fixed a camera lockup bug on older iDevices when closing and reopening Cine Meter II with the Settings screen displayed.
Build 834563400v4.02020-03-19 02:51:14
• Fixed: EV now displays correctly when aperture is 64+ or 0.7-. • Fixed: Low Light Mode now works on older iPads. • Cine Meter II is now a universal app, running natively on iPads as well as iPhones and iPods touch (iPod touches?). • Brightness Correction adjustment added for devices that read 2/3 stop too high in bright light (see “Adjust Brightness Correction” in Help).
Build 827136007v1.212018-05-21 20:26:58
• Low Light Mode switch in Settings, to extend low-light sensitivity by 2.5 to 3 stops. Low light mode lets the camera's shutter speed drop to 1/3 or 1/2 second for better light gathering. In low light mode, images may be blurrier in dark scenes, and the meter may respond more slowly in bright scenes.
Build 826858481v1.202018-04-28 15:34:30
• Improved error handling when no mail account is found for sending feedback.
Build 825914957v1.192018-02-08 20:25:10
• Bug fix: Cine Meter II no longer claims to open text files, so it won't be called when you try to view text files in iOS 11’s Files app (sorry about that!).
Build 824894924v1.182017-12-05 23:28:08
• DIFFERENCE MEASUREMENT: When exposure is locked, you can see how the current exposure and color differ from your locked values. • LOG RECORDING: You can record exposure and color data in log files for analysis in other apps. • SLOWER SHUTTERS: shutters down to 60 seconds for long-exposure work.
Build 824105031v1.172017-10-31 22:29:27
• A minor change to the screen-drawing code, so the screen shouldn't scramble if you hold an iPhone X upside-down. -------------------- If you find Cine Meter II useful, please give it a good review on the App Store. Good reviews encourage further development!
Build 822993850v1.162017-07-24 19:32:22
• Improved default color calibration settings. • Updated help to include color calibration using recent, high-CRI LED sources. Note: one review says this update is “broken” but it’s working for other people. I've installed from the App Store on 9 different iDevices running iOS 6 – iOS 10 and it's running properly on all of them, and hundreds of new sales and countless upgrades have worked without issues. If you have ANY questions, concerns, or problems—before or after purchasing/updating—please contact me directly: cinemeter@adamwilt.com
Build 821609923v1.152017-04-05 02:18:52
Bugs fixed: • In floating-shutter, floating-ISO, and floating-ND modes, over- and underexposure warnings would stick improperly once they were set. No more: once the light level is back in range, the warnings now turn off, as they should. • In floating-shutter, floating-ISO, and floating-ND modes, over- and underexposure would show a + or - on aperture as well as on the floating value. Now the + or - only appears on the floating value, as it should.
Build 821514706v1.142017-03-30 01:48:14
• Added URL scheme "cinemeterii" so you can open Cine Meter II from other apps, like Workflow or Launch Center Pro.
Build 820673313v1.132017-01-25 18:05:48
• ISOs as low as ISO 6 for really, really slow film. • Dedicated Low Power Mode to increase battery life. • Cine Meter II automatically switches to low power mode when running on an iOS 9+ iPhone in Low Power Mode. • Reduced power consumption overall.
Build 818844608v1.122016-09-15 03:00:26
• Lumu should now work reliably on all iPhone 6S devices!
Build 818390122v1.112016-08-16 05:25:19
• Tap and hold SHUTTER, APERTURE, ISO, or ND to “float” it: the floating value changes with the light. • Tap Exp Lock to “arm” it: the entire screen now works as the exposure lock button. • iOS 8+ : Set WB to unlocked, locked, 3200 K, or 5600 K; WB can be shown. • Green/magenta corrections now suggested in 1/4 plusgreen/minusgreen increments • Many annoying little bugs fixed.
Build 816528250v1.102016-03-04 21:50:30
• Aperture-priority capability (tap Aperture to set aperture, shutter reacts to light; tap Shutter to set shutter, aperture reacts to light). • Dedicated Still Photo Mode: replaces frame rate with exposure value; shutter times used instead of angles. • Shutter speeds can be shown in 1/2, 1/3, or 1/4 stop increments. • Tap & Hold picture to capture screenshot (iOS 7+; was: tap & hold Aperture). • Show Debug Window moved to Settings (was: Tap & Hold picture). • Tap & hold color info 2 seconds for calibration (iOS 8+; was: 0.5 second). • Compute Brightness used automatically when needed on iOS 8.4–9.1
