Description

■ "Yesterday they did it. Why not today?" Brushing teeth. Homework. Getting ready for tomorrow. They could do it yesterday — today, nothing moves. You've said it a hundred times, and the same scene plays out. Maybe, that evening, you whispered to yourself, "I shouldn't have snapped." But tomorrow they'll do it. You believe it, and the next morning starts the same way. Every day has a wave. Looking only at the wave, we end up scolding the wave. That is what makes parenting feel heavier than it should. ■ Actually, that's normal — it's called regression to the mean Human performance has waves. A day better than usual is followed by a day closer to the average. Psychology calls this Regression to the Mean. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman writes about it in "Thinking, Fast and Slow": "Scold them and the next time they do better. Praise them and the next time they fail." It isn't the scolding or the praise — they were simply returning to their average. But our brains feel the illusion as truth. It's like an optical illusion. Two lines of equal length look different when arrows point outward. Knowing the trick doesn't change what we see. So knowing isn't enough. We have to draw the line. We have to plot the trend. ■ Look at the trend, not the wave This app turns small daily moments into a moving-average line chart. Brushing teeth, bath time, homework, preparing for tomorrow, reading. One tap each. The day's total becomes a single point. The points scatter up and down. That's the wave. Above those points, the 7-day moving average runs. Even when waves swing, the line climbs gently. "Today was terrible," you think — but the line is quietly pointing up. A short comment, written from the data itself, sits above the chart: "There's a small dip recently, but it's part of the wave. The longer trend is climbing." Reading the line, not the point, gives you space from the illusion. ■ One tap, that's it [1] Sort your tasks into three categories. • Essentials (brushing teeth, bath, getting dressed) • Must-do (homework, preparing for tomorrow, lesson practice) • Nice-to-have (reading, folding clothes, free study) [2] For each task, tap one of three buttons. • Done (green) — completed properly • Tried (yellow) — they made the move, room to grow • Skipped (red) — didn't get to it today [3] One tap for your child's mood, too (Good / OK / Bad). As patterns appear, you'll see "today is a lighter-load day" or "we need a different rhythm". A "Bulk" button at each category covers busy mornings in a single touch. If you skip a day, yesterday's score carries forward — so a once-a-week lesson is fairly counted across the week. ■ This app is for parents who • End most evenings drained from scolding • Try not to compare siblings, but find themselves doing it anyway • Want to see their child's growth in data, not in feelings • Want weekly-lesson progress to count properly • Want to step back and look at their own parenting calmly Before aiming at "parenting without scolding", it helps to understand the brain mechanics that make us scold. This app is a small step toward that. ■ Privacy All data stays on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers. No tracking. No profiling. The ads we serve are configured not to read what's on your device. Quiet, certain, inside the family. GrowthTrend — see your child's growth in the trend, not in the wave.
