What’s New Version 1.2
Version 1.2 - Keep the same cellar on all your devices.
- New "Sync across my devices" option in Settings keeps your cellar in sync on every device signed in to your iCloud account, so your iPhone and iPad always match
- Add a wine, open a bottle, or update a rating on one device and it shows up on the others
- Everything syncs: wines, quantities, opened history, ratings, prices, market values, label photos, and barcodes
- Works on its own and is separate from Family Sharing - you do not need one to use the other, and it stays off until you turn it on
- When you set it up on a second device, the app asks whether to use that device's cellar or pull the one already in iCloud, so nothing gets overwritten by accident
- More reliable iCloud and Family Sharing syncing throughout, so your cellar stays consistent everywhere
- Backups now capture everything needed to restore safely without creating duplicate wines
Description
Personal Wine Cellar is a personal wine inventory app that runs entirely on your device. No account, no servers, no analytics - your cellar is yours.
CELLAR MANAGEMENT
- Full inventory grouped by type: Reds, Whites, Roses, Sparkling, Dessert, Fortified
- Each bottle tracks producer, wine name, vintage, varietal, region, country, quantity, rating, price paid, optional barcode, optional label photo, AI-estimated market value
- Special-occasion and drink-soon flags that the pairing engine respects
- Cellar stats: bottle count, distinct wines, total cost, total market value
- Zero-quantity wines move to a collapsible Previously Opened section so the active cellar stays clean
SCAN WITH AI
A unified Scan tab with three modes:
- Find in cellar: match an existing bottle by label or barcode and jump to it
- Add new: snap a label or scan a barcode and AI fills the form for you
- At the store: Buy, Skip, or Already have, with a synthesized critic review summary and reasoning grounded in your existing cellar
Barcodes are read instantly (UPC/EAN). Label identification needs your AI key. Bottles you add with a barcode are matched locally next time, no AI call.
CUISINE-AWARE PAIRING
Type any dish and the engine classifies it as Indian, Western, or Chinese and applies that cuisine's rules. The Indian rules go deepest, reading heat level, curry base (tomato, coconut, cream, tamarind), and protein. Each recommendation comes with a plain-English reason and a "why this works" teaching note.
For dishes the rules don't cover well, an optional AI second opinion fills in.
OPEN WITH A RATING
Opening a bottle prompts for a 1-5 star rating, notes, "buy more if I see it" flag, and date. The Log shows ratings and "buy more" chips so you can scan your history when deciding whether to re-stock. Bottle detail pages surface the full opened history of that wine.
CELLAR-WIDE AI TOOLS
In Settings, Cellar AI Tools offers three batch operations:
- Fill missing tasting notes
- Refresh market values
- Generate per-bottle pairing hints (which the rules engine consults to boost matching bottles)
All three skip bottles refreshed within the last year and tell you exactly how many are missing, stale, or fresh.
BRING YOUR OWN KEY
Personal Wine Cellar talks to either Anthropic Claude (paid) or Google Gemini (free tier available). You provide your API key in Settings; it stays on your device and is never shared. Optionally pick a fallback provider that auto-retries on quota failures.
BACKUP AND RESTORE
Single-file JSON export of your entire cellar: bottles, log entries, and label photos. Save to iCloud Drive, email it to yourself, or AirDrop to your Mac. Restore on a new device in seconds.
ON-DEVICE FIRST
Personal Wine Cellar collects nothing. No telemetry, no analytics, no account. Your AI key only goes to the AI provider you chose, and only when you scan a label or invoke a Cellar AI Tool.

Build 887268374v1.1.12026-06-23 16:59:59
Version 1.1.1 - Scan labels without an AI key, plus privacy and AI improvements.
- Snap a wine label and the app now reads it right on your device - no AI key required. It fills in what it can recognize: vintage, grape, region or country, and producer. Works completely offline and free, and nothing about your photo leaves your device.
- Your AI API keys are now stored in the device Keychain - encrypted, and never backed up or synced to iCloud. A new indicator in Settings confirms secure storage is working.
- If you use Google Gemini, you can now choose Flash or Pro in Settings. Flash is free and on by default; Pro is higher quality but needs billing on your key. The choice is per device, so everyone sharing a cellar can pick their own.
- Prefer smarter, fuller recognition when scanning labels? Add an AI key in Settings and scanning uses it automatically.
Build 887216784v1.12026-06-20 15:37:02
Version 1.1 - Family Sharing.
- Share your cellar with family on their own devices, over iCloud
- Invite from Settings; they install the same app and accept the link
- Family can browse the whole cellar and get pairing suggestions
- They can mark bottles opened and add more of wines you already have - changes sync back to you
- No setup for family - no API keys needed to browse, open, or restock
- You stay the curator: only you add new wines, edit details, delete, or run the AI tools
- Pull down on the cellar to refresh
- Family Sharing is optional and stays off until you invite someone, and it uses your own iCloud - there is no server in the middle
