"Michi" (未知 "the unknown" / 道 "the path") is a quiet, beautifully designed Japanese learning app for kanji study and JLPT preparation (N5–N1).
Its rich content was developed by a qualified, active Japanese language educator based in New York, refined through repeated feedback from real-world Japanese learners.
This is not just an app for rote memorization or test prep alone.
With everyday conversation collections you can use right away in life in Japan, detailed grammar explanations, and breakdowns of how kanji are formed, Michi bridges studying for the exam and Japanese you can actually use in daily life.
A calm, dark interface evoking ink and washi paper, along with encouraging messages that gently keep you going each day, turns studying into a comfortable habit.
[What You'll Learn]
- N5–N1 kanji: readings, meanings, stroke order, and example usage
- Vocabulary and grammar matched to each JLPT level
- Listening practice with natural-sounding audio
- Quizzes and mock exams to test your skills
- Handy appendices including counters, numbers, dates, and surnames
- Built-in vocabulary and kanji flashcards (vocabulary also includes audio)
[A Design Built for Focus]
- A focus-enhancing dark interface inspired by ink and washi paper
- Switch between textbook style and brush style: textbook style for handwriting practice, brush style to appreciate the beauty of Japanese characters
- Original background music to sharpen concentration, crafted with careful attention to frequency ranges to ease tension and create an environment where learning settles into memory
- Encouraging messages that make you want to keep going. Register your exam date to use the reminder feature.
- Keep studying every day to unlock gifts, with plenty of touches designed to help maintain your motivation
[Michi Pro]
Michi Pro removes the daily limit and unlocks every feature, including full mock exams. Every level stays free to explore.
- All Levels (N5–N1): a one-time $34.99 — best value (about 30% off vs. buying levels separately)
- Single level: a one-time $9.99 each (N5 / N4 / N3 / N2 / N1)
Everything is a one-time purchase — no subscription. Buy just the level you are studying now, or unlock all levels at once, and it is yours forever, including future updates.
[Other]
"Michi" is an independent learning app created by a qualified, active Japanese language educator. It is not affiliated in any way with the organizations that administer the JLPT (JEES and the Japan Foundation).
