What’s New Version 1.3

Smarter time display. All times throughout the app now show both 12-hour and 24-hour formats side by side, automatically matching your iPhone's clock setting. Whichever format your phone uses appears first, with the other shown in brackets. Alarm times on the Alarms tab. Each alarm now shows the exact time it would fire today based on your location, so you know at a glance when sunrise, golden hour, nautical dusk, and every other event will actually occur. Moonrise and moonset include the date since they sometimes fall on the following day. Distances on the Compass. The Sun and Moon panels now show how far you are from the point on Earth directly beneath each body, in miles and kilometers based on your region settings. Better Compass readout. The altitude display now shows the exact angle for both sun and moon, including negative values when they're below the horizon. Clock tab stays current. The clock face, sky background color, and next alarm time now update immediately when you return to the app from the background. Sky Map info panel. The Solar, Lunar, and Twilight info panels are cleaner and easier to read, with times formatted to your clock preference and distances shown in your preferred units. Improved iPad text visibility.

Description

Sol Clock is a solar time clock that connects you to the rhythm of the sun. Rather than dividing the day into arbitrary equal hours, Sol Clock shows you where the sun actually is, from nautical dawn through solar noon to deep night. Displayed on a beautifully crafted astronomical clock face inspired by the medieval clocks of Venice and Prague. The Clock The St. Mark's face renders a full 24-hour solar day. The hand tracks the sun's position relative to solar noon, not midnight. The orbital ring shows the complete sky color spectrum for the day — deep indigo at nautical twilight, warm orange-gold at golden hour, neutral white at midday — all computed dynamically from your location and today's actual sunrise and sunset times. Solar Events & Alarms Enable notifications for any point in the solar day: Nautical Dawn, Civil Dawn, Sunrise, Golden Hour End, Morning Light, Solar Noon, Afternoon Light, Golden Dusk, Sunset, Civil Dusk, Nautical Dusk, and Night. Each alarm fires at its precise solar time for your location, rescheduling automatically every day. Sky & Compass The Sky Map shows Earth from above with a live terminator line — the boundary between day and night — updated continuously. The Compass tracks the sun and moon in real time. Solar Time Sol Clock displays true solar time alongside standard and UTC, so you always know where you stand in the actual solar day, not just the civil one.

Version 1.2 brings the sky to life on the clock face. The orbital ring — the band the sun travels along — is now a full 24-hour color wheel. Each segment shows the actual sky color for that time of day: deep violet at nautical twilight, warm gold at sunrise, pale blue at midday, rich orange at dusk. Colors are computed dynamically from today's sunrise and sunset at your location, so the wheel shifts subtly with the seasons and your latitude. The clock tab background now reflects the current sky conditions with a smooth gradient that cross-fades as the light changes throughout the day. A live color temperature readout now appears below the time display — for example, "~4,800 K · Morning Light" — so you always know the quality of light at a glance.
