What’s New Version 1.0.8
• Smoother restore from iCloud backup on a new iPhone. The PIN-validation step now runs in the background with a progress indicator, so the unlock screen stays responsive on the final digit.
• A first-time hint now points at the menu in the top-right corner of the file list. The hint shows once, dismisses on tap, and never reappears. The menu icon itself also reads a touch more prominently.
• Now available in Russian, German, Spanish, and French. The whole app — every button, label, prompt, error message, and the camera and Face ID permission dialogs — has been translated. iOS picks the right language automatically based on your phone's Language & Region setting; switch your phone's language to try it.
• Folder names with apostrophes (like "Anna's") are now preserved exactly as typed. iOS autocorrect could occasionally adjust them at the moment you tapped Create; the new-folder and rename fields no longer accept those corrections.
• Small reliability pass on the vault: a quick consistency check at unlock makes sure every item is reachable from the top level. Most users will never notice it; it's a quiet safety net for edge cases involving interrupted operations.
• Better VoiceOver support throughout the vault. Folder rows now announce as a single item with their name and count; the "Move to folder" picker reads each destination by name; decorative icons no longer announce themselves alongside their text; selection state in batch operations is now spoken correctly.
• Behind the scenes: migrated the App Store review prompt to the iOS 18+ API and cleaned up a batch of Swift 6 concurrency warnings surfaced by Apple's latest tools. No visible changes from this work — it just means the app stays ready for newer iOS versions without legacy-API noise.
Description
Hide photos, IDs, and private files. With a decoy vault, two-factor authentication, and end-to-end encrypted iCloud backup. Pay once. No subscription.
FileStasher is a private file vault for iPhone that takes privacy seriously without being inconvenient. Drop in selfies, ID cards, passports, tax forms, contracts, screenshots, receipts. Files are encrypted on your device before they touch storage. Optional iCloud backup stays encrypted end-to-end, so even Apple can't read it. Not the person sharing your iCloud. Not someone who picks up your phone. Not us.
WHAT MAKES FILESTASHER DIFFERENT
▸ DECOY VAULT — TWO VAULTS, ONE APP [Premium]
Plausible deniability, built in. A second passcode opens a completely separate decoy vault with different contents. The real vault stays invisible — no hint it exists. For travelers, journalists, abuse survivors, and anyone who might one day be told "just show me."
▸ BUILT-IN DOCUMENT SCANNER
Snap a page with the camera and it lands in your vault as an encrypted PDF. Multi-page scans become a single document. Receipts, IDs, tax forms, contracts — no third-party scanner app, no plain-text uploads to a cloud you don't control. Included with the free base app.
▸ TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION [Premium]
Add a second layer of security with any standard authenticator app — Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, Apple Passwords. Ten emergency backup codes so you're never locked out. Rare in photo-vault apps. Standard in this one.
▸ END-TO-END ENCRYPTED iCLOUD BACKUP [Premium]
Optionally back up to your own iCloud. Files are encrypted on your device with your passcode before any data leaves. Apple sees only ciphertext. Restore on any iPhone signed into your iCloud. Most vaults in this category either skip cloud entirely or sync unencrypted — FileStasher does neither.
▸ PAY ONCE. NEVER AGAIN.
One-time Premium upgrade. No subscription. No "free trial then surprise charge." No ads. Ever.
▸ ZERO DATA COLLECTED
No analytics. No tracking. No third-party SDKs. No telemetry. No account to create. Your files, your passcode, your device — that's the entire system.
WHAT YOU CAN STORE
• Photos and videos from your camera roll
• IDs, passports, driver's licenses
• Tax forms, contracts, medical documents
• PDFs — read multi-page documents inside the vault
• Scanned documents — capture pages with the camera and save them as encrypted multi-page PDFs
• Anything you can share into an app from Files, Safari, Mail, Photos, Notes, and more
Import via the share sheet from any app, the built-in document picker, your photo library, or scan directly into the vault with the camera.
HOW YOU UNLOCK
Choose what fits how you live:
— PIN only
— Face ID / Touch ID only
— Face ID / Touch ID + PIN together
Repeated failed attempts trigger an exponential lockout.
INSIDE THE VAULT
• Color-coded folders, nested as deep as you want
• Built-in PDF viewer — open and read multi-page documents without exporting
• Multi-select for batch export, move, or delete
• Move whole folders (and their contents) in one action
• Secure deletion — files are overwritten before removal, not just unlinked
• Auto-lock after a configurable inactivity timeout, plus instant lock when your device locks
• Full VoiceOver, dynamic type, and accessibility labels throughout
FOR THE CURIOUS
• AES-256-GCM encryption via Apple's CryptoKit — the same standard banks and governments use
• Encryption key derived from your passcode with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 at industry-recommended iteration counts
• No master key. No backdoor. No "forgot your passcode" reset link. Forgetting your passcode means losing your files — that's the point.
LANGUAGES
English, Russian, German, Spanish, and French. Every screen, prompt, and permission dialog is translated. iOS picks the right language automatically from your phone's settings.

Build 886079165v1.0.72026-05-25 18:12:44
• Scan a document — straight into the vault. Tap the + menu and pick "Scan Document." Line up a page, snap it, snap the next one, and the whole thing saves as a single encrypted PDF. Works for receipts, IDs, tax forms, contracts, handwritten notes — anything you'd otherwise photograph, crop, and stash one picture at a time.
• Multi-page scans become one PDF. Flip through pages in the built-in PDF viewer without having to export the file. Each scanned PDF goes through the same case-insensitive duplicate-name check as every other import.
• Free feature — included with the base app. No paywall, no Premium gate. Camera permission is requested once when you first tap "Scan Document"; FileStasher uses the camera only while the scanner is on screen, and the resulting PDF is encrypted on device before it ever lands in your vault.
Build 885769327v1.0.62026-05-18 16:29:33
Same FileStasher, with a refreshed App Store listing that makes it easier for people who need privacy — not just convenience — to find us. No changes to the app itself. Your files, vault, settings, and Premium features all stay exactly where they are.
Build 885580281v1.0.52026-05-12 23:07:50
• Move folders. Send a folder — and everything inside it — into another folder, or back to the vault root. Swipe right on a folder, or use the context menu.
• Cleaner handling of duplicate names. File and folder names that already exist in the same spot are caught before you create or import, and matching is now case-insensitive — so "Photos" and "photos" count as the same name. Photo imports also offer Replace / Skip / Cancel on a duplicate, matching document imports.
• Faster two-factor unlock (Premium). The verification screen now accepts a pasted code from your authenticator app — long-press the field, tap Paste, then Verify. You also have more time to flip over to your authenticator and back without having to start the unlock over.
• Polish and stability across the unlock flow.
Build 885297059v1.0.42026-05-05 23:12:48
Reliability:
• Fixed an iCloud restore hang on a fresh device. When restoring a backup from a different device, the restore could get stuck on "Discovering files…" right after the main vault finished downloading — and the Cancel button didn't always work, forcing a force-quit. The duress vault now restores via the same fast path as the main vault, so cross-device restores no longer rely on iCloud's slower metadata-index search.
• Cancel during the restore is now responsive throughout. Previously Cancel could be ignored for up to ~10 seconds while iCloud's metadata index was being queried; it now interrupts immediately.
• During a restore, the progress label no longer leaves a stale "Downloading file N of N" on screen while waiting for the next vault's manifest — it correctly resets to "Downloading vault manifest…" between stages.
Backups:
• You can now delete individual backups directly from the restore picker. Swipe a backup to the left and tap Delete; a confirmation alert reminds you that the backup will also disappear from every other device signed in to your iCloud account. Useful for clearing out old or unwanted snapshots without waiting for retention to prune them.
Build 885244493v1.0.32026-05-04 21:35:56
Reliability:
• Restoring from iCloud no longer hangs for tens of minutes on slower
devices or weak iCloud Drive links. Files now download in parallel
instead of one-at-a-time, with a sliding deadline that keeps
downloads alive for as long as iCloud is making progress and gives
up cleanly on files that have stalled.
• If some files can't be pulled from iCloud during a restore, you'll
now see a clear "Restore Incomplete" notice telling you exactly how
many files came through and how many couldn't.
• Importing iCloud-Drive files is faster: FileStasher now kicks off
every download at once and shows "Waiting on iCloud Drive…" so you
can tell when the wait is the network, not the app.
• A Cancel button now appears during restores and during file import,
so a slow iCloud download is never trapped without an exit.
• If iCloud Drive is signed out or disabled, the app now says so
immediately instead of silently waiting for downloads that will
never arrive.
Restore Picker:
• The list of available iCloud backups now shows up to ~66 distinct
restore points (30 daily, 12 weekly, 24 monthly) instead of the
previous ~7. Scroll to find any backup you've kept.
Vault Recovery:
• Fixed a confusing "Could not decrypt file" error that could appear
when importing a photo or document after an iCloud restore was
interrupted. The restore now writes its files atomically, verifies
the new vault data is openable before declaring success, and — if
something does go wrong — shows a clear "Vault Data Corrupted" alert
at unlock with one-tap options to restore again from iCloud or to
reset and start over. No more silently-empty vaults that error out
on the next action.
Polish:
• The "Preparing files…" progress bar now fills smoothly while large
videos download from iCloud Photos, instead of staying at 0% until
the very last moment.
• Cancel during a long photo or video import now actually cancels.
Previously, tapping Cancel while a multi-GB video was downloading
from iCloud Photos flipped the banner to "Cancelling…" but the
download kept running and the file still ended up in the vault.
Now the in-flight download is aborted within a fraction of a
second.
• Fixed a glitch where toggling Duress mode (or 2FA) off and tapping
Cancel on the confirmation alert would unexpectedly push you into
a "Set up Duress" flow as if you were enabling it from scratch —
which could leave the duress vault undecryptable. Cancelling now
correctly leaves everything as it was.
• "Import Photos" menu item is now labelled "Import Photos/Videos"
to better reflect what it actually picks.
Build 885188856v1.0.22026-05-02 20:43:36
Improvements:
• You can now rename files inside the vault — swipe right on a file or long-press it, just like you already could with folders.
• Folder counts now include both files and subfolders sitting directly inside, so the number under each folder is more accurate.
• The lock-vault button now appears in the toolbar inside every folder, not just at the root — you can lock from any depth without navigating back out.
• "Rate App" in Settings now opens FileStasher's App Store page directly so the rating sheet always appears — the previous build could silently do nothing on a real device once Apple's per-year rate limit had been hit.
• Cleaned up the file preview screen: removed the redundant Share button from the top toolbar. Use the Export action from the file's long-press menu when you need to send a file outside the vault.
Build 885153509v1.0.12026-05-01 19:38:21
Bug fixes:
• Reset App now fully clears all vault data, so onboarding can complete
cleanly afterward. Previously, leftover encrypted data from a prior
vault could cause the next setup to fail when importing new files.
