What’s New Version 1.1.8
Fixed an issue that could cause some iPhones to overheat and force close the app, so your reading and brainstorming sessions stay cooler and more stable.
Description
Avid is an AI reading app for readers who want more than a quick book summary.
Use Avid to chat with books, import highlights, write notes, keep a reading journal, and remember more from every book you read.
Avid helps you turn reading into insight. Add the book you are reading, then ask questions, discuss passages, explore ideas, and reflect on what mattered.
Unlike a basic book summary app, Avid does not replace the book. It helps you go deeper into the books, highlights, and notes you already care about.
READ DEEPER WITH AI
Avid uses AI to help you think through books instead of only giving you summaries.
Ask the AI about a quote, character, chapter, argument, theme, or idea. Talk by text or voice and continue the conversation as you read.
Your highlights, notes, reading journal, and past conversations stay connected, so Avid can help you remember more across your library.
IMPORT HIGHLIGHTS AND NOTES
Import Kindle highlights, Apple Books highlights, Readwise highlights, and Kobo highlights.
Avid helps you revisit highlights, expand notes, organize reflections, and connect ideas across books.
Your highlights become more than saved quotes. They become part of a living reading journal for the books you read.
WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH AVID
- Chat with books by text or voice
- Use AI to discuss passages, ideas, themes, and questions
- Import Kindle highlights, Apple Books highlights, Readwise highlights, and Kobo highlights
- Keep notes, quotes, reflections, and reading journal entries
- Save insight cards from your strongest ideas
- Get session wrap-ups after deeper reading conversations
- Find connections across books, highlights, notes, and past discussions
- Get book recommendations based on your reading history
MORE THAN BOOK SUMMARIES
Some reading apps help you track books. Some apps give you book summaries. Some apps help you save highlights and notes.
Avid brings these habits together in one AI reading app.
Use Avid as a reading journal, book notes app, book summary alternative, and AI companion for the books you actually read.

Build 887549275v1.1.82026-06-28 16:58:11
Fixed an issue that could cause some iPhones to overheat and force close the app, so your reading and brainstorming sessions stay cooler and more stable.
Build 887458289v1.1.72026-06-25 22:55:23
This release fixes the Library and Insights notification marks so they stay attached to the tab bar through scrolling, minimizing, rotation, and appearance changes. Library also now carries the mark into Discover when a new next-read recommendation is waiting. The dots clear when the underlying item has been seen.
Build 887395187v1.1.62026-06-24 21:58:57
This update introduces a quieter, more personal way to return to your reading.
- Avid now surfaces something that is already yours: a passage you marked, a question you left open, or an idea that keeps appearing across your books, so you can pick up the thread right where you left it.
- Highlights return after they have had time to settle, bringing back a line you underlined when it is more likely to spark reflection.
- Open questions now wait for you in place, with the conversation ready to continue when you come back.
- Notifications are less frequent and more intentional: at most one per day, and only when there is something real to revisit.
- A small dot now appears on the tab with something new, whether that is a letter in Insights or your next read in Library, and it disappears as soon as you check it.
- Plus general polish and fixes to keep everything feeling smooth and reliable.
Build 887233734v1.1.42026-06-21 04:47:22
This update makes Avid feel smoother and more reliable while you read and chat with your books.
- Gentle update reminders: A new in-app banner lets you know when a newer version of Avid is available, so you can easily stay up to date with the latest improvements.
- Better chat continuity: If you switch apps or lock your phone, your in-progress drafts are preserved and AI replies keep streaming when you return, so conversations with your books feel uninterrupted.
- Cleaner composer: The message box now behaves as expected, without the giant empty space, and the keyboard appears and hides more seamlessly while you write.
Build 887246029v1.1.52026-06-21 18:43:50
Your next read, found.
- Discover now surfaces a single, focused pick drawn from your own highlights and notes, so you can follow the thread from what you are reading into what comes next.
- Each recommendation now explains why it appeared, including the passage or idea from your margins that connects it to your current book.
- You can now scan a book cover or barcode with your camera to instantly open the conversation for that book.
- Books you save from Discover now go to a unified Want to Read shelf, with the same name everywhere you see it.
- Switching between My Books and Discover is more responsive, and a range of small fixes make the app feel steadier throughout.
Build 887167860v1.1.32026-06-19 14:05:24
A warmer welcome.
Avid's first conversation now does a better job of showing what it's actually for: it keeps what you talk through with it, connects the ideas across the books you bring it, and points you toward what to read next, drawn from your own thinking rather than a bestseller list.
We also smoothed the conversation itself and fixed a few small things under the hood.
Build 887093405v1.1.22026-06-17 19:35:26
Avid surfaces the ideas you keep returning to — and points you toward what to read next
• Browse your saved insights book by book
• Tap the thread in your weekly letter to see the cards behind it
Build 886996832v1.1.12026-06-15 19:06:33
A bug fix to ensure a smoother onboarding process.
Build 886876968v1.1.02026-06-12 16:14:58
Bug fixes and a new pressing — Avid, re-set cover to cover.
• A redesigned reading world: warm paper that catches the light as you tilt, pages that lift open, ink that blooms while you wait
• Messages at a proper reading size, plus a Text Size dial in Settings
• Quiet paper sounds for sending, receiving, and keeping (with a toggle, and they respect your silent switch)
• Your Portrait: how you think with what you read, with bookplates pressed for beginnings, firsts, and streaks — each holding a line from the day that earned it
• A Home Screen widget that wakes every morning with a line you kept
• A Lock Screen control that opens the passage scanner in one tap
• On This Day: lines you kept a month or a year ago find their way back
• Your cards now appear in iPhone search
• Chat always lands on your latest message, and dozens of small repairs throughout
Build 886760188v1.0.422026-06-10 15:12:30
Voice is now a real conversation. Avid hears you as you speak, answers in the moment, and doesn't mind being interrupted. It remembers what you've been discussing, and everything you talk through is saved to your chat history.
Also in this update:
• A gentler first conversation if you're just getting back into reading
• Voice connects more dependably
• Small polish across onboarding and subscriptions
Build 886614931v1.0.412026-06-07 15:34:45
This release is mostly about how Avid feels.
We rebuilt its surfaces around paper and light. There's a soft grain to the
pages now, cards carry real material depth, and the whole app is quieter and
more considered, closer to a well-made book than a screen.
Voice mode has been reborn around a new living orb that moves with the
conversation, and it connects faster and far more reliably.
A few more things to notice:
The Letter. Once a week, Avid writes you a short, quiet letter about what
you've been reading and thinking about. Opening it has a small sense of ceremony.
Easier sharing. Turn any line or insight into a beautiful card on its own,
with no menus to wade through.
Plenty of polish. Settings follow light and dark the instant you switch, the
first run is smoother, and voice no longer stalls on "connecting."
Tell us what to improve next from Settings, or write to pascal@avid.chat.
Build 886353841v1.0.402026-05-31 23:18:02
Avid now makes it easier to see how your saved ideas connect.
This version brings a more crafted quote detail experience, with livelier connection maps, clearer evidence for each thread, and calmer insight cards that feel more like a reading surface than a feature panel.
What’s improved:
• Connections feel more alive, with subtle visual threads between related ideas
• Each connection now shows clearer evidence and reasoning
• Quote details have a more refined layout for insights, margins, and related ideas
• Book recommendations from your margins now load and present more smoothly
• Onboarding is more personal and easier to move through
• General polish across copy, loading states, dark mode, and reliability
This is a quieter, more intentional Avid: built to help your reading become easier to return to, connect, and think with.
Build 886030166v1.0.382026-05-25 00:11:03
Avid now brings more of your reading context into the conversation itself. The Insights tab still holds your saved ideas, but relevant connections can now appear in chat right when they are useful.
Reopening or continuing a session is more reliable: cached conversations appear while the network catches up, stale background loads no longer overwrite the session you chose, and failed resumes now show a retry path instead of leaving you in a blank chat.
The loading screen now includes a refreshed set of sourced literary quotes, with steadier timing and more reliable attribution display.
Also included: smarter starting prompts, richer recommendation reference sheets, recommendations that better reflect what you've actually read, restored voice playback after archive, tighter Settings spacing, localization groundwork, and an in-app What's New archive.
Have a suggestion or recommendation? Use the feedback form in Settings or email pascal@avid.chat.
Build 886102736v1.0.392026-05-25 19:11:23
The loading screen now includes a refreshed set of sourced literary quotes, with steadier timing and more reliable attribution display.
"What's new" pop up to keep users informed on the latest updates.
Build 885881548v1.0.372026-05-20 13:30:49
This update fixes a dark mode display issue during onboarding so your saved questions and book connections stay clear and readable in every appearance setting.
Build 885830492v1.0.362026-05-19 16:15:02
Email sign-in is now more reliable on iPhone. We improved the reader check, clarified sign-in errors, and refined the layout on larger iPhones.
Build 885786530v1.0.352026-05-18 13:09:15
Avid now has a richer first-run experience that introduces the reading companion more clearly, with a more thoughtful flow from first question to saved threads and returning moments. This update also improves voice mode continuity when the screen locks, refines archive references, and adds polish across reading preferences.
Build 885711894v1.0.342026-05-15 16:02:34
Avid now feels smoother in chat. The Avid bubble stays present while responses are being written and streamed, with cleaner typing states and message transitions.
This release also includes small polish and stability improvements.
Build 885589317v1.0.332026-05-12 23:04:46
Avid is steadier and smoother across the places where conversations move between states.
This update improves Chat reliability after wrapping up a session, opening sheets, scanning pages, or returning to the app. The Chat screen now self-corrects its layout so the title, toolbar, prompts, and composer stay properly positioned.
We also improved page capture and scan handoffs, refreshed library/source flows, tightened voice playback and controls, and made several polish and reliability fixes across Library, Sources, Margins, Settings, and notifications.
Build 885509641v1.0.322026-05-11 07:10:38
Avid now starts with you.
This release introduces a redesigned onboarding experience that helps Avid understand what you want to read, remember, question, and think through. It now explains how Avid helps your ideas move forward, shows the method behind the product, and gives a clearer first look at the kind of conversation Avid is built for.
We also refreshed the visual design with new brand imagery, improved the first-run flow, added more thoughtful personalization, and made several improvements across voice, chat, library, margins, and overall app polish.
Build 885428178v1.0.312026-05-08 18:06:43
- A refreshed onboarding experience.
Build 885347204v1.0.302026-05-06 22:36:24
Refreshed icon for both light and dark modes!
Build 884999480v1.0.292026-05-05 20:34:11
A few quiet additions to this version.
Long-press anything Avid writes to keep it. Your cards shelf now grows from the same conversations it draws from.
When your shelf is still bare and a conversation has gone somewhere worth keeping, Avid will offer to save a passage for you.
Connection errors read in Avid's voice now. Specific to where you are and what you were doing, with a path back to reading.
Build 884953318v1.0.282026-04-27 15:56:56
This release adds the small things that help us find more readers like you. If you're already with us, nothing changes about your experience.
New readers joining us will see one quiet question at the end of onboarding about how they discovered Avid. Optional, and the answer doesn't change anything about the app.
Thank you for being here while we keep building.
Build 884922481v1.0.272026-04-25 19:35:48
A few quiet improvements.
Conversations now stay with you across tabs and brief absences. Switch to your library, take a call, come back. The thread is unbroken.
When your phone sleeps mid‑response, Avid keeps thinking on its own. Open the app again and the rest of the answer is waiting.
Wrap‑ups hold through unstable connections, too. The reflections you've been building toward won't slip away.
