Description
Sizzzle is the native iPhone and iPad app for the recipes you already keep on your own Mealie server.
Mealie is a self-hosted, open-source recipe manager. Sizzzle hosts nothing and ships with no recipes of its own. It connects to the Mealie server you run and gives it a fast home in the kitchen. If you already self-host Mealie, this is the cooking side of it. If you were hoping to open an app and find recipes waiting, this is not that.
YOUR RECIPE BOX
- Browse every recipe on your server in a card grid
- Search by name; filter by tag, category, ingredient, tool, household, cookbook, or favorite
- Sort by name, rating, date, or last made, or shuffle for an idea
- Heart your favorites and rate recipes one to five stars
- Open cookbooks grouped the way you set them up
BUILT FOR ACTUALLY COOKING
- Full recipe view: ingredients, steps, notes, prep and cook times, source link
- Scale the servings from 1 to 99 and watch the amounts follow
- Nutrition figures when a recipe has them
- The screen stays awake while a recipe is open, so it won't lock mid-stir
- Recipes and images you have opened stay readable when the connection drops
GETTING RECIPES IN
- Type one in by hand, or paste a URL and let Mealie scrape the page
- Snap up to 15 photos of a paper recipe and have them read into text
- Parse ingredient lines into quantity, unit, and food, making new ones as you go
- Open or share a .sizzzle file straight into the import screen
PLAN THE WEEK
- A shared seven-day household meal plan, scrolled week to week
- Slot recipes by breakfast, lunch, dinner, side, snack, drink, or dessert
- Pull a random recipe, copy yesterday forward, or jot a plain text meal
- Set meal-plan rules per day and meal type with AND/OR filters
- Keep a cooking timeline: log what you made, with a note and a photo
SHOPPING LISTS
- Keep several named lists; add items by food, quantity, and unit
- Send a recipe's ingredients to a list, scaled to your servings
- Swipe to check things off, group by food category, hide what is done
- See which recipes fed the list
ORGANIZE YOUR LIBRARY
- Create and edit tags, categories, and tools
- Build cookbooks with smart AND/OR filters that fill themselves
- Manage foods, units, and color-coded labels; merge duplicates and every recipe updates
- Edit side by side on iPad
LOOKS AND LANGUAGE
- Light, dark, or follow the system setting
- Full English and German
REQUIREMENTS
Sizzzle needs your own self-hosted Mealie server (mealie.io), already running and reachable on your network. You connect with your server URL and either an API key or your Mealie username and password. Custom HTTP headers work for setups behind a reverse proxy like Authelia or Authentik. Your URL and tokens are kept in the device keychain. There is no Sizzzle account and no Sizzzle cloud. Without a Mealie server to connect to, the app has nothing to show. Offline is read-only: viewing works, but adding and editing need a live connection.
A note on privacy: your recipes, meal plans, lists, and photos live on your server, not ours. Sizzzle includes anonymous usage analytics (PostHog) to help fix bugs and decide what to build next - screen and action events only, no recipe data and no session replay.
Made by someone who self-hosts Mealie and cooks from it most nights. Tell me what is missing.
