Description

AstroShader is an astrophotography app for capturing, stacking and editing. All you need is a stand, tripod, telescope or rock (to lean your phone on). AstroShader functions differently to traditional astrophotography workflows by aligning and stacking live during the image capture process. No need to transfer images to a computer to align and stack them separately (but there is a built in intervalometer if you do need it). To take an image follow these steps: • Use a stand, tripod, telescope mount (or lean your iPhone on a rock). • Zoom in on stars and set focus manually. • Set the exposure time, ISO and white balance. • Set the number of exposures to be automatically aligned and stacked. • Calibrate your images from the edit tools. • After the capture is complete you can edit and save your image—including as 16bit TIFF. • You can open images directly to use the edit tools in AstroShader - rather following a new image capture. Image capture options include: • Number of exposures to be aligned and stacked • Exposure time • ISO • White balance • Camera type • Countdown timer • Manual focus • Pause the capture to reposition iPhone or telescope Edit options include: • Stretch image • Background extraction • x5 Histogram curves for fine tonal adjustment • x3 sharpen layers each with radius and intensity with layer blending rather than chaining • Brightness (low light enhancement) • Saturation • Black point • Temperature • Tint • Save format options; HEIF, PNG, JPEG, TIFF

★★★★★ 1 Year later… New York Mapping
It’s been 1 year since I used this app, and my experience was overall amazing. There has been some bugs, but these new updates are getting increasingly better. I love to see this getting updated more, and I hope the developer keeps making this better. I have gotten some amazing pictures from AstroShader, and I will continue to use this app. Definitely 5 stars!
★★★★★ AstroShader with a telescope TheMoose139
While the standard iPhone app is better for full night and landscape shots, it’s not what this app is meant for in my opinion. This app works best when using a telescope, as the standard iPhone camera app has no stacking software, so there would be large star trails if you try to take a long exposure on the standard app. Excels at taking photos with quite a lot of stars, and nebulas.
★★★★ Great! Would love more options like deep sky stacker. Satellite image receiver.
Hi guys! Great app! Love it. I’ve got some great photos, but have a few suggestions… Forst of all, where can I select dark flat and light frames??? Could you implement that as a SEPRATE setting? It’s convenient as is, but would also love full manual as an option. Also, could you select where in the exposure are that you want to stack based off? Otherwise a great app! Would encourage! Now it’s no Nicon and telescope, but it gets the job done. Would benefit from a good tutorial… just saying. Can’t
★★★★★ Amazing app with a few yet annoying problems TheRoboEli
As the other review says it has tracking problems when any objects are in the shot and my main concern is the application crashing when you swap to a different app this is very annoying when trying to use digital star maps. Edit: Also made me miss imaging comet C/2025 Lemmon when the app would nonstop crash no matter what I did. Good app with many annoying bugs
★★★★★ Great app but one thing I seem to have a problem with unfurotnue
This app is great and useful for astrophotography. What I seem to be having trouble with is that whenever there’s a tree in the view of the camera, the app starts focusing on the tree rather than the sky itself, and continues to stack pictures on top of the trees. This same thing can be said to anything close to you or slightly into the distance poking into the frame. So if this problem were to be solved, it would be great.
★★★★★ Photo stacking Mtb856
I’ll be honest, I would pay money (and I’m assuming other people would as well) to be able to have your app stack imported photos…I only have an iPhone and iPad Pro, and the lack of non-computer based stacking applications makes me super sad. :’-(
★★★★★ Wow! LindynBlues
Does nothing! Running a brand new iPhone 15 Pro iOS 18.0.1. I set the parameters and then press the shutter. It counts down and then does nothing. I’ve yet to achieve a single photo. The developer claims to have recently updated for barely noticeable bugs. No results at all with the app is truly barely!!
★★★★ Great, remote support would be good Lucid Heart
This app is amazing! Primary issue is that when I touch the screen to capture, it causes instability. I bought a remote that works over Bluetooth, but it expects the volume down button to map to the “capture” button to work. If you could program support for volume down to capture image like the built in iPhone camera utility does, that would make my four stars a five star review! Also, there’s no other way to contact the developer, other than to post this request in the review section. For
★★★★ iPhone 16 Pro BrandonM4
Hello, I really use to enjoy using this app on my iPhone 13, however since upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro my screen will either go black while still being able to access the settings. Or the camera works fine but won’t take a photo. I contacted Apple and they suggested I reach out to you about this issue. Is this a known issue so far with the new phones with AstroShader or will there be a new update coming out to fix this?
★★★★ Great app! One issue u_got_reviewed
This app is the greatest free astrophotography on the market by far. The UI is easy, and it takes amazing photos when used right. One issue. The thing crashes when taking long (like 40 sec+) exposures. After a certain amount of time it just kinda quits. Still an amazing app, and I would absolutely recommend to others!
★★★★ It needs to be a little functions. The man with many talents
In my opinion I think that it is missing some more functions. Such as automatic white balance, iso, and exposure time. If you could make it set the white balance by what filter you are using. Also the app really need’s better editing and the ability to stack photos manually and automatically aligned stacking. But this is a very good app for of what it is and it has so much potential. Thank you for reading and please make these features!
★★★★★ PLEASE SO MUCH POTENTIAL AV8TION lover
I really dearly ask you that yall work more towards makeing this app like a stacking software such as registaxx. It could allow me to stack and process space objects the auto align feature works well but please you will be a one of a kind app if you take that path towards becomeing a software for stacking and processing images. And I can assure many others will be looking for a app of this style. Also could you allow videos to be imported from camera roll to be aligned and stacked that would be
★★★★★ Great app Big love carrot
This app is crazy good at Astro images with a phone mount on a telescope. And for free it’s absolutely worth the 5 stars. A way to save each frame to camera roll as they are taken would be great but I can’t complain at all about the app in its current form
★★★★ great app with a few bugs informal_coconut
the app is simple and straightforward. the ui is easy to navigate and it shows you the important stuff without obstructing the viewfinder. the first few tries have worked extremely well on my 14PM, with andromeda galaxy visible in a bortle 6 area, but recently, the images have become blurry and low res. the first attempt got me 12MP but now i get a resolution of some 192x256, which isnt even 1MP. it happened when i turned on pixel binning and left the phone outside for about 10 mins in subzero (
★★★★ Great app. Would get 5stars if there was an apple watch app macgyver58
This is a great app but the one thing I wish it had was the ability to remote trigger from my apple watch. I can do this with the iphones built in camera app but not with astroshader. I would prefer not to touch the phone and cause any vibration. At least there is a delay you can use but an apple watch app would make this perfect
★★★★★ Perfect! - Just what I was looking for. Victor Frisbee
I am new to astronomy and EAA and have struggled with getting decent pictures. I have two dedicated eyepiece cameras but I have yet to master image capture and post-processing; the learning curve is very steep. This application is exactly what I was looking for; something that allows me to get great looking images quickly & easily. I was starting to get discouraged with the whole process and this app has rekindled my enthusiasm.
★★★★ Awesome app – for free! Just one request. Official Monkey Business
This is a great app! It offers so many features that even some paid apps don’t have. I love how you can chose the exposure length (longer than thirty seconds, which is the max some other apps offer) and also have it take multiple of those exposures. Lets say 30 ten second exposures. It also automatically stacks the images and lines them up. Afterwards you are able to edit it. I do have one request though: Is it possible to have a setting to turn off the alignment function? I would like to take
★★★★★ iPhone Astrophotography 📷 Photics
There’s a commercial that pokes fun at the iPhone, saying how it can’t see any stars. With the default camera app, a blurry black screen was the result. (It even tried to use the flash. 😆) But with AstroShader, there were so many stars in the picture. 🤩 It can take some practice getting used to the settings, and I didn’t use a telescope, but the app is powerful. It adds practical Astrophotography to the iPhone. I did have some trouble seeing the app in the dark though. The “Close” button –
★★★★ Works…sometimes Mobu 50v!
No complaints since it’s currently free and I have an older iPhone but the stacking feature (which is what I was really hoping would work) only works maybe 60% of the time. I have a new iPhone adapter coming for my tracking telescope so I’m hoping to get it to work on some shots of Saturn! If it works this would be fantastic!!!
★★★★★ Good app overall, but one bug that I cannot seem to fix. ballmaster6084
This app works well, apart from it randomly crashing on you. But this is not what this review is about, for some reason, I can only take one second exposures at a time. I don’t know if I messed something up but that is the max I can take no matter what. If this is a bug, please fix! If it’s some feature, please help me turn it off, thanks!!
