Amazing port to IOS of great game
I have played doom on an old pc before and really liked it so I was excited when I noticed that this came to mobile. This game port is great, fast paced just like the original. I haven’t tried out the mods yet as I want to play through the vanilla game first. I also like how it has a 120 fps mode for the new phones that have a 120hz screen that makes it a lot nicer. Controls are also amazing and not hard to use like a lot of people say. Might have to buy doom II on IOS.

Almost a home run.
This port of the doom game of PC fame is flawless save for one problem. The control interface is not configurable. It has only one layout, which is very difficult and non-intuitive to get used to. Putting all the movement controls on one joystick would be far better and seem more natural to use. having a way to move the control functions around on the controller to suit the individual would eliminate the problem. Then I could give this the five star review review it’s richly deserves.

This is the best mobile game of all time
This is the best mobile game because this is a original video game and they bring it to mobile it’s the best and the game controllers are so good if I was you I would get the game

Needs Better Controls
As others have mentioned, this iOS port of Doom gives players exactly one touchpad control configuration, which are fairly difficult to use. I understand no configuration will be perfect, but I would strongly appreciate the addition of gyro aiming so that the game can be played using only two fingers (the thumbs) as opposed to the currently-required three fingers: one for movement, one for aiming, and one for shooting.
If gyro aiming were added to the game, the port would be very playable!

The new controls are horrible
The original release of Doom and Doom II on the iPhone were amazing - just like playing on a GameBoy or GameBoy Advanced. Run and turn all in one control. The latest version for some reason got rid of what was a perfectly good setup for a much clunkier experience to the point that the game isn’t worth playing anymore. I wish they’d at least give us the option to choose the control configuration most preferable to the user. 1 star rating is for this having been a great game that was functional and fun, and then a unilateral decision taking that original experience away. Hope someone from Bethes

Love it
I got into DOOM through DOOM Eternal and got 2016 a while back, like a week ago I decided to get this because it didn’t require wifi and I was a bit worried if I didn’t like it because it’s different from the modern DOOM games but I love this and I plan on getting DOOM II

Ui opacity?
This is atrocious, two fire buttons and movement stick you can’t adjust the opacity of. Also its pretty ridiculous that after 5 seconds of no user inputs the entire screen gets filled with a control guide, lol even when you have the map open…
…the einstein that came up with this idea should be forced a 100% play through on nightmare difficulty with an iphone SE, a suitable punishment for the nightmare control layout they have created.

Touch controls = Unplayable
The controls are awful. I play doom on ultraviolence normally but it’s difficult to even play on the lowest difficulty with these controls. Pretty much anything is difficult. Walking, aiming, shooting…
Looking online, veteran doom players also just can’t even play this source port because of controls. Sure, you can hook a controller, but it ruins portability, and I’d rather play on pc at that point rather than hooking a controller to a small screen like my iPhone or iPad mini.

Yeah… the controls are bad after all.
I decided to give this a quick try to see if the controls really are that bad. If I liked it, I’d keep it. It’s impossible for me to walk in a straight line and aiming and shooting is clunky. Maybe with a physical controller this can work but if I’m going to bust out a controller then I have several other, more comfortable options that I can use instead (even to this day, I can just play GBA Doom).
Quick shoutout to the Doom RPG series my favorite having been Wolfenstein RPG. Those games are absolute gems well suited for a touchscreen.

Great nostalgia trip; terrible frustrating controls
It was fun to revisit DOOM and all it’s8-bit glory but it’s not worth spending money because of the poor and unresponsive controls that at least I experience using my iPad. Too frustrating once the game elevates in difficulty. In fact, it’s unresponsive at times I wouldn’t spend my money if I were you.

For what it is its pretty fun
Honestly despite the terrible controls, it’s still doom and its still fun if the only gaming device you have is a phone. If you have anything else i would not recommend this though.

Add bigger buttons, otherwise great
Would like even basic custom mapping and ability to make the buttons bigger. Otherwise no issues.

Walk down memory lane.
I played Doom on the PC back in the day and enjoyed every second spent in it. I recently dl’d Doom Eternal on my PC and tried to play it…..there was No manual and any search for one was met with negative results. I finally deleted the game. I loaded Doom for iPhone and started playing it. For a PC game ported to iPhone, it works very well and it was familiar. For the price, I highly recommend it!

Bad port of the best game
I would think that the most popular game of all time would have decent controls. You can’t edit anything or move or resize any of the 4 controls on the screen. If tencent can make pubg with 30 different items on the screen and they are all resizable and movable then this should not be a problem. Figure it out!

Great Port, Not-So-Great Controls
The title pretty much sums it up, but I’ll go into a bit of detail anyway.
The port itself is very good and a nice piece of nostalgia for anyone who was around to play the original release on DOS. If you have a Bethesda account, you can download a [rather limited] selection of add-ons, from TNT Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment to SIGIL and No Rest for the Living, to keep you entertained after you finish the main game.
The only thing that takes away that fifth star is the controls; the buttons you use to fire your weapon and interact with your surroundings are small and difficult to pres

New update that add more map packs please!
We need new add ons! It’s been over 3 years and nothing new is been done with Doom 1 or 2. And it’s getting a little stale now. Also for those complaining about touch controls. Just connect a Bluetooth controller and play. I’m using an old Xbox 360 controller. And it’s a game changer.

Pretty cool. lot of people really harping on the controls; definitely isn’t the cleanest, but it’s really not all that bad once you get used to it, especially since it’s literally Doom on an iPhone. Pretty darn cool.

Original iPhone port was FAR superior.
Original Carmack port didn’t have the stupid tiny buttons that are difficult to press BLOCKING your view of the game. What it did was just let you tap the right side of the screen to shoot and tap the left side to open doors. Dead simple. Game devs, please stop making things unnecessarily complicated. Also I don’t think it’s impossible to make this fill the iPhone display instead of running in a small emulator-looking box. Really bad port guys. It’s almost as if it’s intentionally bad. Really weird.

New controls are terrible
Why did you take away the option to customize the controls? The new layout is horrible. The right shoot button is too small and I miss it pretty often. Then I accidentally waste ammo constantly when I bump the left shoot button that I never use and would have removed if I had the option. The old version had completely movable and resizable buttons and now we are stuck with a layout that was clearly designed for someone with smaller hands than I have.

Great port!! Love the game!
There are a lot of negative comments but I mostly see it’s about the controls. Which if you’re playing only touchscreen I’ll admit is a challenge. If you have a control for your phone this is an absolute hit!! If you loved Doom growing up as a kid and you need something fun to take you back once and awhile, you’re going to love this! Just use a game control lol

Perfect Mobile Game
This game is extremely powerful. Its levels are intuitive as 1993 can get, and the enemies and guns are the same. Its gameplay is addictive and the story keeps me coming back. 4.99 is a small price to pay for an experience as good as this! Highly recommended!

Great Port and Game! why are people mad?
people complain about controls or the bad remaster or fps limit and i just have to say… why? do you really need 60 fps in DOOM? this isn’t pc or console, this is mobile, that’s for battery saving anyways! the controls are good and same with the remaster, i mean people even speedrun this version soo….
oh and you can use add-one like with the pc, xbox, and playstation port :D

Controls
Hello developer team,
The game is great however I’m having difficulties with the controls. Specifically the shoot button. It’s too small for me to tap on. I keep missing it when gaming. Can you implement a resizing option on the control layout scheme. I would appreciate it.
Thank you

Not bad for a port.
Honestly, this is one of the best ports in a while. I don’t know why people are complaining about the controls, seems fine to me. The game is just as is remember it, it’s fast paced and bloody. The settings is great, it’s good and what I expect. I would recommend this port for on the go people. This works on airplane mode to. Worth my 5 dollars.

Controls make it unplayable
Downloaded this on my iPad figuring this would be good with the iPad keyboard, seeing as the original was meant to played with a keyboard. The original game used the store keys to move forward, backward, and aim. While it seems like the iPad version does support a keyboard, The arrow keys do nothing, WASD moves forward, backward and strafes, and there is no way to aim or shoot. It aboard the only way to aim or shoot is to use the touch screen which is asinine. This could easily be solved by allowing controls to be re-binded but of course there is absolutely no option for this.

Good version of mobile Doom. All the Final/Ultimate levels plus Sigil and a bunch of others too. I didn’t mess with the touch controls but everything else seems great.

Bad touch controls ruin an otherwise great port
The controls are spongy, like your last second of input sticks. Making aiming and moving very difficult. If you’re just playing the game and having fun, it’s manageable. But if you want to play the harder difficulties you will keep dying just because of the controls.
