Travellers can submit a New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) by using this official New Zealand Government app if they are arriving aboard a flight or cruise into New Zealand. The new version (1.8.3) introduces traveller profiles, which allow you to store your passport and contact information on your device so that it's faster and easier to complete your NZTD.

Description

Make your arrival in New Zealand a smoother experience by filling out your New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) before you get here. You can submit it up to 24 hours before starting your trip to New Zealand. Your declaration will take about 10 minutes to complete and you’ll need to answer the questions in English. You can update it at any time, up until you get to the border in New Zealand. Information you need to provide when filling out your NZTD includes: - Your passport, contact and flight details; - Your immigration status (if required); - Details about your trip, including your recent travel history; - Items you are bringing into New Zealand, including in your carry on bags and checked in luggage. With the NZTD app you can: - Scan your passport to add your passport details; - Add and complete multiple declarations, for example, for your children; - Use offline mode to enter information while you’re flying or out of WiFi or data range. You need to be online to start or submit a declaration. Once you’ve submitted your NZTD there’s nothing more you need to do. You won’t have to print anything out or show a QR code. Your NZTD will automatically show up when your passport is scanned at the border.

The description that best fit me was that I was traveling in visa waiver but planning to apply apply for a visa when I arrived. That seemed contradictory to me but there was no better option. Also, you’re asked to say Yes or No to a question about whether you’re bringing “any outdoor gear. … including footwear, “…. Well, yes, I am wearing shoes on the plane and I’m bringing flip flops in my luggage, and both have been and will be worn outdoors. So do I say Yes or No? (I said No, simply because there can’t possibly be anybody arriving in NZ without shoes, therefore there’d be no point in pu

1) When you fill out the declaration for other travelers in your family the app should prefill most of field (departure date and flight, home address, etc). It is painful to fill it out and to repeated fill out the same info. 2) I partially filled out a travel declaration on a web form through a link provided by the airline website. There is no option to continue or edit a travel declaration you started on the web. Painful. 3) It is totally unclear if a non-Aus/NZ traveler on a visa waiver through NZETA should choose “entry class visa” or “visa on arrival”. Please developers: think a bit harde

The app is quite straightforward and easy to use. I appreciate being able to submit the information electronically in advance rather than rushing to fill out a paper form on arrival. Biggest feedback: Anytime you switch app screens - which I had to do a couple times to look up flight info, contact info, etc - it erases whatever info you had already filled out for that screen. Annoying when it’s necessary to flip back and forth for necessary info

You have to enter a lot of information in the app. Anytime you go to another app to look that info up (like your flight number, dates, etc) everything you just entered in that section disappears. So it’s pretty annoying to use.

I found that the app jumped back out of the declarations details page when attempting to paste my NZ contact address several times forcing me to re-enter information. I eventually got it to work by selecting the manual address entry option. It is also a little disconcerting that a “profile” is created without any account credentials being collected.
