Is useless and pointless
So instead of just adding the chat onto the main Steam Application instead we have this app which is completely useless and super flawed. Not only do you not receive notifications but it’s also poorly executed and barely has any options compared to the standalone app.

Its okay
I feel like the steam chat doesn’t need to be separated from the mobile steam app, but anyway the app is helpful when I have to send a message to someone whose in a game and I can’t send them a message through discord because if they look at discord their controllers might not work properly and they’ll have to close the game just to reconnect their controller, it has happened several times.

I think it’s fine the UI/UX is fine. It’s also modern enough and works fine enough. The lack of voice chat capability means this app is basically useless especially for Discord refugees. Valve add the ability to do voice chat and this will be golden 4 stars.

Deprecated + Epilepsy Warning
This app hasn't been updated since pre-COVID and it remains an afterthought to Valve, completely unusable on any recent iOS. It's fraught with bugs and other glaring issues such as: notifications not being pushed to your device, direct messaging breaking when trying to upload images with the keyboard active, and intense jitter/stuttering when scrolling from older messages to newer ones in several instances. Epilepsy-prone individuals beware as this is a fairly frequent occurrence when catching up with chats and there's any bright/colorful imagery present. BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS. I'd recommend

First of all, no notification noises, so i have no idea when somebody wants to talk to me. Second of all, too many bugs, such as last online times are usually completely wrong, sometimes just not giving a notification at all, cant send videos, and overall just bad. I adore this app and I’m glad it exists, but there are a few glaring issues that prevent me from rating it higher. 1. Voice chat does not work on mobile. 2. Works as intended but poorly designed
If you want to talk to friends on steam using your phone, this app works. However, the UI is very poorly designed and is often confusing. The app does let you create group chats, channels, and all the other steam chat stuff with one exception: voice chats. You literally cannot use voice chat in the app, it just wasn’t ever added. This app doesn’t deserve such a low rating but it is poorly designed and it doesn’t have the features I would expect.

Have to reinstall the app basically every other week because of the “There was a problem logging you in” bug where it just gets stuck loading and you have to tap retry a bunch of times. Notifications are buggy, messages sometimes say they sent but people don’t receive them, the app crashes. Not sure what valve was thinking when they split this off into its own app. 1/10.

I wake up and some previous webpages I approved about a month or so ago are being used by Russians and HK IPs to send my friend list scam links. Geez where’s all those two-factor and steam guard features? Oh they didn’t need them because of APIs unlike myself the account owner (who has to sign-in with two factors all over my stuff). Dear Steam make your security more secure can’t believe I gotta say that.
